I vote based on a few key points.

Woman's rights - I want a Prez that's going to leave women's bodies alone.

The Bible and Religion - I want a Prez that's not going to try to incorporate Jesus into laws.

Social Security - I've busted my ass for the past 40 years building up my SS nest egg. I want a Prez who's least likely to **** with MY money.

Usually the candidate who fit this bill also goes along with most of my other thoughts on things like the environment, education, wall street regulation, health care, etc.

I don't know what either of you are talking about. We don't have a Social Security fund. The taxes come in, and then right back out again. Nothing is being saved for anyone.

In the past when the payroll taxes collected from social security have been in a surplus they have been diverted to general revenue and spent, instead of placed in the fund to ensure there is not a funding shortage in the future.

Both republicans and democrats have engaged in this, which is why Al Gore suggested a lock box on it in the 2000 election.

For those of you wondering this (click me) is a handy-dandy comparison chart for the current running candidates and the potential candidates on the issues. Personally I'm leaning towards Bernie Sanders. He's a trailblazer from Vermont. His age is a slight concern, but it is not something that cannot be over come.

Note this doesn't mean I'll actually vote

Fund is the wrong word but I currently do have a nest egg. I get a statement each quarter with updates as to what my SS monthly benefits will be under the current system based on what age I retire. The dudes talking about scrapping that system and going the privatization route scare the crap out of me.

I'm military. It's a general rule of thumb that we don't vote in the Presidential election because 1) regardless of who gets picked they are our Commander and Chief, and we will follow their orders; 2) a huge vote either way by the military community would come off as fixing the elections.

That doesn't make sense. In 2013 the US military had approx. 1.4 million members. The number of US citizens eligible to vote was 235 million.

You guy's make up about one half of a percentage point in the grand scheme of things.
