There's no such thing as unbiased reporting, because all information that is reported is searched for, selected by, interpreted by, and written by a human being with particular views on a subject. That person's biases guide literally every stage of that process.

Although I will say that you're right about our preference for entertainment and information that caters to us emotionally. That's definitely become a problem in how we seek and provide information to one another.

Uh ja...if you can't tell where John Oliver is entertaining and reporting, that ones on you because it's stupid easy for him. If we were talking about Jon Stewart you'd have a case.

Also, Oliver makes it very clear where he's kidding and where he's reporting.

Again, I admire John Oliver's program and I watch it weekly. I find it informative as well as entertaining. It's just not journalism in the traditional sense, although it's influenced by the field, which I appreciate.

That I agree with, but I still consider it journalism.
