It was only Massachusetts in 2003, 2 years before it happened here. I'm talking about recognizing it on a federal level, which it was not until this morning.

This is amazing. For the first time in basically forever, I'm actually proud of something my country did. It's a great day to be an American and a reat day to be a human being.

AMERICA! **** YEAH! HERE TO SAVE THE MOTHA-F*CKIN GAYS!

And I'm talking about the US starting the process before Canada, which is why I said what said.

Now Ki can finally marry his boyfriend! I hope he'll consider me for one of his maids of honor.

But why did it take so long to get it recognized on a federal level? Because of all the lobbying from religious groups and right wing politicians? Same-sex marriage here in Ontario was made legal in 2003 with Halpern v Canada AG, which was the first law made out of all the provinces. Two years later, the federal government passed the Civil Marriage Act which allowed same-sex couples to get legally married.

I feel like the US only legalized same-sex marriage just so they could be on the same page as other countries who did this 10 years ago. A 5-4 Supreme Court ruling is hardly a landslide victory like everyone on the Internet is making it out to be.

Texas and more conservative states have a lot of pull in Congress since they have a large number of representatives. I think that's the main issue. I'm not sure how many times it's been brought to the table over the years though. Plus I don't think people are making it out as a landslide victory, more of a landmark victory.
