Edit: So what happened? If you start a joke could you at least have the courtesy of finishing it.

This is sad news; another country takes another step away from the rational approach of science. At least, according to the article, students at university will hear about Darwin. Also from the article:-

Quote:
[In Turkey] the theory was not well taught anyhow: "Once the teacher asked us who believed in evolutionary theory. I raised my hand. The teacher said: 'Are you a monkey then?'"
What a horrible way to "teach" -inviting children to give their opinion, then holding them up to ridicule for doing so. I bet that poor kid thought twice about ever raising his hand again.

In a survey of 2,527 Pakistani high school students conducted by the McGill researchers and their international collaborators, 28 percent of the students agreed with the creationist sentiment, “Evolution is not a well-accepted scientific fact.” More than 60 percent disagreed, and the rest were not sure.

Eighty-six percent agreed with this statement: “Millions of fossils show that life has existed for billions of years and changed over time.”
That's from the NYTimes

Behind Pakistan. What an embarrassment.
