Buffalo Update: Total whiteout. Drifts are now 7 feet high. I can't see my elevated porch anymore. Power keeps going out, PC is down, and on top of that, my cell phone provider just had a nationwide outage so I'm dead in the water for the next few days.

All roads are shut down, and the weather warning states that travel is "impossible" and only for "life or death" circumstances.

I have two appointments Tuesday and Wednesday and, just as my luck would have it, the eleven days after that will all be well above freezing temperatures with constant rain to melt all the snow. But I'll need my car for the two days prior so I'm going to spend Christmas and the next few days after manually hand-shoveling with no means of emergency contact.

Merry Christmas.

The older I get the more I feel like it is worth it to go back to FL and gamble on the occasional hurricane tbh. Rather than know for a fact it's going to get cold.

Post-Storm Buffalo Update:

I just watched a video conference from the county. I had no idea how bad it was. The mayor pleaded with citizens to please get off the roads. Many roads are completely impassable. Emergency vehicles cannot respond to critical calls.

Gas station pumps and grocery store shelves are empty because fuel trucks and supply trucks can't get into the city or to their destination sites. Main roads have 3 feet of compacted snow making them undrivable.

A task force of hundreds of police officers are being brought in from New York and New Jersey to forcibly remove vehicles from the streets. There are emergency numbers being implemented to call and find out where your car has been towed to. (University parking lots are being used to hold them en masse.)

BBC World News reports looting in the wake of the storm:

"They're destroying stores. They're stealing televisions, couches, whatever else they can get their hands on. ... It's like a war zone, and the vehicles along the sides of the roads are shocking."

The local city death toll is at 28 of the national 50 total. That number is expected to climb.

As expected, both of my appointments are cancelled. I'm going to stay home with the remaining food I have and not move until New Years Eve. Hopefully the warmer weather and 11 days of rain that starts tomorrow will ease the burden.

I'm thankful that I'm safe. <3

Hopefully, the rain won't cause major flooding combined with the melting ice. In any event, stay safe, Innerspace.
