I'm wondering to what degree students simply misunderstand the texts when they conflate "institutional racism" and "racism". I mean, I haven't read any of the books where this nonsense comes from, so what do I know?

The whole thing is bizarre. It would seem obvious that racism is prejudice/discrimination based on race and institutional racism is when that is happening institutionally. Why there has to be this conflation and redefining, I do not know.

Controlling language controls thought and therefore controls action. The battle over the words we use and how we define them is a cornerstone to politics.
