That sounds pretty ****ed up. Are there too few or what's going on?

There's free NAMI groups all over. They can't get you meds but they definitely will help.

Great idea for a thread. I have a journal dedicated to my own personal story.

I appreciate the link. They do exist in my community and it’s cool that they’re trying to help but I tried every resource they recommend and was turned away everywhere. I didn’t just call the clinics I went there personally and said look I feel really bad, really wrong, and I was turned away. The ER resources send you off unless you’re “suicidal”.

Q: Are you suicidal?
A: If I were suicidal I’d be dead but my meds aren’t working right I need to see a real psychiatrist.

...we don’t have a psychiatrist available talk to your general practitioner

I tell the GP I feel “wrong” “awful” “depressed” on and on

You need to see a specialist

I tried everything to see a psychiatrist

That’s all we can say. Keep trying.

...

Try what. I went everywhere.

And doing all that when you feel like that. Alone. It was exhausting.

There’s nothing but quackery, jail, church, and rich people ****.

What are the chances of the mods stickying this thread? This can be helpful for a lot of people.

Linda and I used them for support when Mike was at his worst. Never had to try from your side of the street. Sucks they couldn't help you.

The places with the most trauma have the least trauma centers.

That's kind of how a lot of people out here feel, too. I just know that there are resources out here that will get you counseling or a therapist with out having to be suicidal. Just, nobody really knows about them.

You mean there simply aren't any psychologists or psychiatrists in your area or you have have bank for anyone to care?

Bank, of course - but really the distinction between a licensed therapist with a masters and a PhD in psychology is negligible to me. I needed and still need MEDICAL treatment like most any other health concern. Mental disorders, of course, are entirely chemical phenomena but people who supposedly treat it have no understanding of neuroscience. You might as well just pray.

Most mental health clinics here don’t employ an MD of any sort and certainly not a psychiatrist. I take pills so it seems to me I should be able to at least meet with a psychiatrist at least once. The way mental health care is compared to how it should be is shameful.
