The protesters are more concerned with their own fate than with whether America or China are a greater global evil.

They know that they have more rights than people in mainland China and they are watching that steadily erode. They are literally opposing a measure that would allow China to extradite Hong Kong citizens to the mainland. This will naturally extend to people being extradited and charged, put into slave labor camps and possibly executed for simple thought crimes. Being the wrong religion. Having the wrong political beliefs. Simply being viewed as subversive to the Chinese regime in any way.

If you are going to condemn them for appealing to a super power like the US to help then you quite simply have no soul and are more concerned with ideology than with actual human suffering.

He's like a reverse nationalist tbh. It's not "America is the greatest and my connection to it makes me important," it's "America is the worst and my connection to it makes me important." Different beliefs, same narcissism.
