Yes, they don't protect you completely and are MOST useful to prevent you from spreading the disease, but they do also help somewhat to protect you from catching it. I think that's been proven.

And actually I'm not looking for validation, just sharing my experience. Obviously I am going, the ticket has already been booked. Just giving my side of the story.

Btw you guys, I've also been living in Malaysia for the past year and have been going outside of my apartment and being around other people. I've gone to supermarkets numerous times and also I go to restaurants several times per week. Granted, the incidents in Malaysia are far lower than in Europe or the U.S..

The interactions that I have with other people are with masks, hence very low risk of contagion. Air travel is strictly regulated, hence low risk. This is not how people get the virus, they get it by being exposed to unprotected people. This is not what I plan to be doing.

Is all I'm saying.

It's not fiction, it's a proven fact, I've been living for the past year in a country where Covid exists, I've gone out of my apartment and interacted with people, I've driven in taxis, commuted to and from work, gone shopping, gone to restaurants, go to the gym, all while respecting the normal protocols, and haven't managed to contract the virus. It's not luck, it's common sense.

It's possible to do things except being quarantined in your apartment safely and unless you have the fortune of home working and/or owning a private vehicle and/or the ability to order all your food to be delivered to your house, you have also interacted with others, presumably safely, and have lived to tell the tale, so let's not be hypocrites please.

You're acting like stepping a foot outside of your home is an automatic death sentence. It's not. :/

I was referring to the naive idea that everyone you've interacted with has been responsible and that prolonged periods in a confined space are easily regulated. Shaming you over something that you're going to do anyways isn't my goal.

You lost me. Did I say everyone I interact with is responsible? I don't care if they are as long as they're wearing their mask around me. Which is what my interaction with others is like. Including at work, when I was going to the office. If both parties are wearing masks the risk of infection is minimal.

My point is also that simply existing in a confined space with other people doesn't mean you will catch something, if you are and others are wearing masks. Hence me taking the subway to work for many months during this year and NOT getting infected.

I don't see how changing my mode of transport is suddenly me behaving like a reckless homicidal maniac.

Again, I've posted in this thread what I'm doing, why I'm doing it and why I think it's not very risky behavior, considering all of the other factors and how I live my life in this pandemic usually.

Risky behavior for me is having a rich social life and interacting, unprotected, with many people. This is obviously not how I'm living and not what I plan to do in Europe.

And that's all really.

Don't call yourself a maniac. That said, flights are several hours longer (idk the exact time of your flight though) than a workday commute and locks airborne particulates in the cabin because airplanes have to maintain air pressure. You're significantly more likely to catch or spread it in that circumstance.

You’re lucky to be living in a country that did the hard work upfront. Id ride it out safely there for one more year. I lived one five year stretch without a single visit back the states before but that doesn’t mean it’s the same thing for me as it is for you but I don’t think a couple years is a big deal at all.
