He doesn’t have the authority to make a universal increase in the federal minimum wage by executive order. He would sign it, obviously, if Congress passed it into law. The best thing people can do right now is make it understood that any democrat who wants to waste this window of opportunity by playing bull**** republican light politics will be opposed in the upcoming primary no matter who they are up against because after the next election it’ll almost certainly be too late. Yeah I'm aware. I was cautiously hoping he'd be cajoling Congress to do it. Now my cynicism has been rewarded.

I am the last person to crush hope whenever you decide to adopt it for like 5 mins but my first instinct is that a lot of this **** is posturing and bullet points to put on the resume.

keep uo the hope but dont bank on it. only time will tell.

Obama increased the federal gov minimum wage to like $10 in 2014 and it didn't do **** for the minimum wage for anybody else. I'll believe it when they actually do it.

It’s not going to mean a raise for me unless it drives up wages and salaries across the board. It’s something I really hope happens for the well-being of others but I know all too well that’s not the same as the emotional and psychological investment in something that’s very directly personal. I think it’s repulsive that anybody makes less and I’m not making any assumptions about what anyone on here makes cause you never know but it’s not like the stimulus check where my personal feelings are absolutely rabid about it. Or the $600 extra when I was collecting unemployment.

Florida already voted to raise the minimum wage to $15 btw.

My contract is for $39,800 a year but my first day is still looking like it’s 10 business days off. It’s through the JC but the position is funded by the state and not locally. They sent me an email today thanking me for my patience.

So technically nothing yet lol
