You have no idea if behind the scenes he's putting knives to throats.

I heard about the student debt forgiveness. Joey jo-jo is throwing the poor students a bone. If I were American, I'd say that if he can go half way, he can go all the way. Pony up the forgiveness.

I don't know what it costs to go to a university in the States. I remember a girl in high school in the early nineties. She got into Harvard. I heard she had to pay around 20k per year. Her folks were both surgeons, but still, that's outrageous.

It's interesting how one would willingly create a system where the best education is only available to the well-off, creating a class of elites, which again will get the vast majority of top jobs, political positions, etc. so they can lord over those born with less money and opportunity to their name, all the while never understanding how life is like at the bottom rungs.

Down with private schools!

Depends on where you go. The problem isn't Federal. States used to subsidize tuition by 60%, now it's 30%.

Are you sure about everywhere? To me, it seems more like a foreign concept.

I was not aware of that. Either way, it's too high everywhere. I don't know what it costs to go to school here, but I suspect I couldn't afford to go for a year.

How The Cost Of College Went From Affordable To Sky-High

Quote:
As family income fell, borrowing to pay for college took off, while public investment in higher education dropped. Sandy Baum of the Urban Institute says that drop has been the single biggest reason for the increase in college costs.

"So it's not that colleges are spending more money to educate students," Baum says. "It's that they have to get that money from someplace to replace their lost state funding — and that's from tuition and fees from students and families."

That sounds like a perfect storm.

I know the athletic scholarship is big, i.e. the free ride. Does this happen on the academic side at all? In Canada, the athletic scholarship is non existent. Students can get a fair amount of costs covered with scholarships, though they have to be exceptional to qualify most of the time.

They do. I know they have programs for minorities at some of the schools as well as scholarships for those especially hit by poverty. The also might give out partial scholarships to students who do very well academically.

But I suspect most of the scholarships go into athletics because that's where the money is.

That makes sense. I'd buy that. Football alone brings in a billion dollars plus, I would imagine.
