They aren't in need of cash, and there's no way they are trying to cater to any particular audience.

They decided to move in another direction. They made a big fuss about how they weren't fans of where the scene was headed and set out to push it into a new direction. They are extremely arrogant.

From the moment they wore the masks, they went mainstream.

They still manage to do a totally different record with each of their release and that's a part of what makes them great I guess.

What did you think of the Tron Legacy Soundtrack that they did?

I don't remember it. Not a good sign.
I'll give another listen...(10 mins later)...meh. I dunno.
It's a soundtrack. Not bad for a soundtrack, still like the COIL one for Hellraiser better.

Man, to me, Daft Punk reminds me, and is embodied in, their earliest tracks.
That's me dancing away in my car on the way to the club with like 10 friends stacked in...

Early, early, I have this one live album (uh, somehwhere) INSANE.
Before Homework.

Anyways, to me, the build up, the let down, the build up, the build up, the release:

Embodies dance music. Tell me you hear that and don't tap a finger, at least...

And, it's not just dusty nostalgia:

Ruff. Raw.
Though I did like Human after all and stuff...

The first few times I heard it. I really didn't like it but I just listened to it again and it moved up from dislike to being just okay.

My interest in them has waned considerably over the years. It is probably owing to the expansion of my electronic horizons like a galaxy and then assimilating certain niches (the ambience of the 70s, the drum & bass and downtempo of the 90s, the future garage of the naughties.) This doesn't say anything about their music, but I might have culled them out of my listening habits purely on time constraints given the vast amounts of music yet to be discovered. Plus, I associate Discovery with indulgence in callow but agreeable hedonistic debauchery of the yore, and not something that seeped into my veins with unobjectionable flow.

But blast it, I'd still end up listening to a new release just to satisfy curiosity.

Daft Punk has some really good songs, and some really not-so-good songs. I must say though, they are extremely solid. If one of their songs starts playing, you instantly know it's Daft Punk. It's their signature sound.
