I prefer comics who have a more gender neutral routine, it honestly doesn't matter to me if they are a one-eyed, black/hispanic transgender. As long as they're funny, I don't care.

Not only has there actually been a study about this, Christopher Hitchens wrote an article about it:

Quote:
Slower to get it, more pleased when they do, and swift to locate the unfunny—for this we need the Stanford University School of Medicine? And remember, this is women when confronted with humor. Is it any wonder that they are backward in generating it?

Hurrah!

Well for some reason when you use bad names or cuss etc while telling a joke or an observation it makes it a little bit more funnier, well maybe that is why women give women a bad name, without the use of bad names their comedy might not be as funny.

Sorry, new to the forum... Just getting to grips with it, totally didn't realise my answer was 50 pages in!

Of course women can be funny. Its just that comedy has always been something of a male orientated world. I think it is more difficult for women to become successful comedians.

But in general life, women are as funny as men. Funny transcends gender, a good comedian is funny regardless of their sex.

What is the difference between the third and fourth option?

Why should the value of a woman's contribution to comedy be determined by men? First of all, women's opinions on humour are not only valid, but necessary for a balanced study, and second of all, men seem to have more trouble relating to women than women do relating to men.

It's just outright ignorant to insist that women do not have a sense of humour. This is a male oriented world, and you will find that in every field of expertise except for the household, men have had decades of work and encouragement to become top of their class. Women have not had the same opportunities or encouragement.

I understand what you're getting at here, and to a large extent you're right, but I also think you're oversimplifying things. The relationship between women and men is far more dynamic and complicated than that, and the difference in opportunities and encouragement between the sexes is often a sword that cuts both ways.

That's probably true. I do believe that men are also stifled in their interests, because they're being pushed away from activities and careers seen as inherently "female". Is this what you mean?

I'd like to take a course on men's studies as well, if it's offered when I go to do psychology.
