There's a great book by François Furet on the myth of anti-fascism as a recruitment tool for the USSR, The Passing of an Illusion, it's on libgen. A bit on the longish side and of course one doesn't have to agree with everything but a great read.

You're right, Plankton. It's a slippery slope: one minute you're telling the bathroom mirror there's no harm in trying it, then before you know it you're invading Poland. Apparently, as a teenager, Putin tried that moustache in a private moment too.
