Since the beginning of music it has been played by instruments and took talent to play them, except for the rare exception of acapella. Rap is the only genre that does not follow that. Rap is too much about Image to me and makin sure your listening to it not becuase it sounds good, but makes you cool. Rappers also have a large vocabulary of made up words, as if the English language is not good enough for them, they have words like bling, g, crunk, illest, flossin, and tons others, just read my post in another thread on rap vocabulary. Rap is also responsible for a lot of violence and death in society, not only the rappers themselves but others that look up to them and gangs and such. Its all part of a lifestyle, one that is not healthy for our society. Sure the music I like went hand in hand with drug use, but how does toking up and listening to ramble on compare to imitating what eminem sings about killing his mother and pissing on her grave, that was unheard of in the days of classic rock. Go on about how classic rock sucks now please.

and thats my point to.. i tried listening to rap. cause my bothers did (still do) and most of my friends love rap.. but i love music because of lyrics and how it makes me feel.. where most rap songs kind of come off as the same thing to me.. (i mean there are really good rap songs out there) but TO ME! for the most part there aren't.and you can call me closed minded or whatever, but i'd much rather go to math class and fall asleep cause that would be much more enjoyable then listening to rap no adays.. RDMC was much better i don't like them much either but man look what rap has come to.. bang bang i'll shoot you and get a murder rap.. oooooo reall cool snoop dogg haha..

And I think you`ll find rap has it`s roots in soul & funk.
And why shouldn`t they use synths & drum machines? Music is about making a sound with what you have , it doesn`t have to be bass , guitar & drums.

BTW loads of classic rock bands used synths so shut the f*ck up.
You missed the point. Go to a modern rap concert, you will see 10-30 people sitting behind computers, that is becuase without them there would be no beats for the rappers to rap over. Your right it doesn't have to be bass guitar and drums, it can be just a man playing a piano like beethoven, but I think its so cheesy to rely on essentially computers to essentially be the band. I would like to hear a rap instrumental, wouldn't that be lame

Wow is that wrong. Sure, a few mainstream "gangsta" rappers sing about that type of shit, but if I judged rock by a few bands on the radio I could say that all Rock was either really whiny or really angry, and that wouldn't be correct would it?

I don't know which statement is dumber, this one or the one before it. What about Electronic music? Are you saying that because they don't play instruments, Electronic artists aren't talented? Because that'd be really fucking stupid. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised to hear something that stupid from you. You really don't know shit about music other than Classic Rock, do you?

Are you saying drugs don't have negative side effects? That in the history of drugs, nothing bad has ever happened? And if a kid hears Eminem sing about killing his mother, and the kid goes out and does that, it's their own fault for being such a fucking dumbass.

No. I'll tell you why Classic Rock sucks when you give an intelligent, reasonable argument against rap.

Try again.

There are tons of rappers who still play music with instruments It's obvious that you've never been to a modern rap concert, or even seen a picture of one. Most rappers use either DJs, entire fucking bands (yes, with ACTUAL INSTRUMENTS!!!), or both.

So what , Kraftwerk were 4 guys sitting behind computers , if it sounds good who the hell cares what it`s played with.

A rap instrumental ? Maybe you`d like to hear an accapelo instrumental too while you`re at it.

I`ve seen some real narrow minded idiots come & go but you really do take the biscuit.

Man you are thickheaded, I gave my argument, and it is intelligent. I am happy to say I have probably smoked weed at least once a day for the past 2 years straight, and it has 0 negative effects on me. However, if I went out and killed everyone I hated and treated girls the way rappers say they treat them and all the other stupid **** they rap about I would be a mess, probably buying crack out of some alley and then getting shot eventually. You just don't have an argumetn against classic rock, so you are avoiding it.

Accapella Instrumentals is pretty talented stuff, I have heard a few, where They mock sounds of instruments with their voice, extremely talented stuff, way harder than sitting behind a computer playing with sound effects

Not really , people would have taken inspiration from what came before , e.g. soul , funk , blues & rock n roll.
