I literally live 6 hours from the closest major city. I only get to go to shows once in a blue moon.

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it!

Thats how i felt watching Sunn O))). You just can't even imagine what a show of theirs would be like until you are there. You can even watch live footage and still know nothing. I'm not sure if i looked away from the stage even once, hardly said a word during and even for a couple of minutes afterwards.

I imagine Swans would be a similar experience but sadly, i've never had the pleasure.

There aren't even smaller cities around you with clubs where lesser known bands play?

I live in a small city of about 20k people, and we don't have any real music venues here aside from the Paramount Arts Center, which mostly gets country acts, traveling Broadway shows, and things of that nature. I can go to the next city over, like, 30 minutes away and they have one decent music venue (acts like Freekbass, Hank III, Junior Brown, and Todd Snider, mostly), one arena which generally has crap booking (Excepting the Avett Brothers and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals show coming up), and a Riverfront which has lately been getting some decent acts (Saw Gov't Mule and Dark Star Orchestra there). As for seeing big shows or any manner of indie, folk, or real jam music, I'd have to travel at least three hours.

Oh, and I almost forgot: during the summer, my town has a festival thing called Summer Motion for which they book acts which were big back in the day, and a few well-known country acts. We've had like, Eddie Money, The Turtles, Micky Dolenz, Kansas, and The Lovin' Spoonful in the past few years. Better than nothing...

My problem is being Canadian. It's still 5 hours to the city that would get small club shows of local bands; everything else is rural. I just don't live in a place that is affordable or efficient to tour.

It's funny, I saw Sunn O))) open for !!! back in 2003 and at the time had never heard of them. I like them now but I must say I didn't enjoy them at all that night. I had gone to that show still reeling from a bad breakup with an ex-girlfriend of mine and in desperate need to shake my ass to some dancepunk grooviness. Heavy, droning guitar was really not what I was in the mood for at all. I'm just curious what crackhead put !!! and Sunn O))) on a bill together.

I'd actually love to see Sunn O))) again now that I'm familiar with them and would know what to expect.

I might be seeing Broken Social Scene next Friday. This is my first concert other than crappy local bands. Jesus Christ I'm excited.

Hehe I can imagine the element of surprise as an unknown support band not working to Sunn O)))'s favour, for sure. If you get the chance to see them again then go. I was completely enthralled throughout. I said i hardly spoke much well that includes when they finished and people started to eave, i sat there for a couple of minutes or so and me and the lad i went with were outside of the building before either of us said a word to one another.

Might sound OTT but i seriously needed a few minutes just to reflect on it first.

Talk about lucky... I am home for two weeks and it just so happened I got to see Swans Wednesday night. It was amazing, and ****ing loud! I'm a huge fan of their older music over their newer stuff (though it's all good) and I was ridiculously happy with the song choices. The sound hit you so hard, Mike and his gang have to be deaf. No ear plugs doing that every ****ing night?

Maybeshewill with Dextro, &U&I and Ryoga tonight. Earlier today I thought I had to concede that I couldn't afford to go but a mate came through for me. Probably because I told him about it, had him listen to Maybeshewill all night, allowed him to get excited about it and then be surprised by a questionable bank statement and have to tell him I couldn't go!

Really looking forward to this one.
