Hmmmm....

The Backstreet Boys (

) - I was 9 so I don't remember anything except lots of lights and loud screaming.

Adrian Legg - Great acoustic performance...Again I was about 9. *Met

Olivia Newton John - Really really really awesome. She was my hero at the time, and it was just a really amazing show followed by a suprise meeting with her after the show.

Aly & AJ - Good show, not as sharp on the vocals live. *Met*

Jonas Brothers (x2) - Pretty good show..They are better live than their albums. I HATE their new album...waste of money. *Met*

Ted Nugent - HE'S THE MOTOR CITY MADMAN HOW DO YOU THINK IT WAS?? THAT GUY'S FRICKIN AWESOME!

The Donnas (x3 - shows coming in September & May) - They are the best band that I've seen live. I stand in front of Allison Robertson every time and it's the best show. I give it BITCHIN' even. They have such great stage presence and interact with the audience so much. They dedicated a song to me at the last concert I went to. They are also extremely nice offstage.

Juliette and the Licks - Really great show. Juliette Lewis is rad, and very nice. I also got to miss school the next day..tee hee.

The B-52's - WOW. They are so energetic and fun on stage...I'm still kinda pissed that Fred blew us off before the show though.

Aimee Mann - She is just as good as the records and I loved the show..Very mellow.

Melissa Etheridge (LAST NIGHT) - She sounds EXACTLY like the CD's. She has great stage presence and is right on key the whole time. The band backing her up is totally stellar, too.

I think I got everything. hahahaha

Here is a list of the top 5 performances, followed by a list of good, mediocore, and poor performances that I have been to. This does not have to do with the merit of the band, only the performance they gave that night (or their best show I have been to). I can't remember them all, but these are the ones that stand out in one way or another... so that should say something in itself.

TOP 5 PERFORMANCES

1) Daft Punk

To be honest, you just had to be there. That’s all I really have to say about it, sorry.

2) Muse (2)

My previous post, after I saw them for the first time

“Best show of the weekend by far. Last year at ACL I told a lot of people about Muse and ended up regretting not going when everyone told me what a great show they put on. This year I was going to see Arcade Fire again, but decided to go with my friends to see Muse. The performance was beyond electrifying. Every song sounded like it was the last level of a video game. The absolute best instrumentation I witnessed all weekend was that of Matthew Bellamy. When he wasn’t shredding up some finger tabbing solos that make the panties drop behind his head as he was convulsing on the ground, or using the side of an amp for a slide, he was playing the piano as if he were in a elegant dinning ball room. The lighting effects were out of this world, I was beyond amazed. There even was a little 5 minute jam session completely freelance with no lights or anything. Most all the music played came from the albums 'Absolution' and 'Black Holes and Revelations'. MUSE FTW!”

3) Rage Against The Machine (2)

There was something incredibly awesome about seeing them reunite for the first time in some 6-8 years. I have never even remotely seen that many people at one show (the paper the next morning quoted 180k but I think it was a little bit overstated), people were literally coming back from being up front in the mosh area with blood dripping down their faces. They had about 30-50 extra cops that rode around in ****ing assault teams because they were afraid of a riot. The band played flawlessly as if they had been playing together the whole time. I have never felt like there was so much pent up craziness in one place at one time ever. The second time I saw them I was more sober, so I really enjoyed the music even more…. I think I almost killed someone when Calm Like A Bomb came on.

4) Pearl Jam

One of the first concerts I was ever able to convince my parents to let me go to. These guys were already pros at live shows by this time, and known for putting on some of the best live performances. They did not let down. I cannot remember a whole lot about the set list (young and intoxicated), but a few notables they played were ‘Evenflow’ ‘Alive’ ‘Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World’. If they would have played ‘Yellow Ledbetter’, then I might have never gone to college and tried to start a rock band, but instead I have a white collar job... red wine drinking sonofabitch.

5) Ghostland Observatory (3)

Most of you probably haven’t heard of these guys. I reviewed them after I saw them at ACL last year, and I have to say they put on quite an electric performance. These are my boys from Austin and they live up to the “Keep Austin Weird” tagline. Ghostland are 2 members, the mastermind behind the scenes (he wears a cape when he performs) takes care of the drumming turntables keyboards bass and whatever needs be. Then there is the lead singer and sometimes guitarist. Work with me here for a minute; Imagine if Freddy Mercury had babies with Pocahontas, and then one of those babies took dance lessons from Michael Jackson. Too tough... but I will say that my experience at a MUSE concert, just last year, proved to be one of the finest concert experiences of my life. And I've seen hundreds of bands...

australia is terrible for shows with large bands...
always uber-expensive and in those big arena things like frickin vodaphone...
and hence
i dont go to them
and go see smaller electro and indie bands in ****ty bars
(18 in a coupple of weeks so this shall get easier)

anyway

saw him before he had a drummer
kind of lame as it was just him with a laptop onstage

good but a touch cheesy
competant synth pop

boring generic hardcore with very little talent
the guys are quite nice though

probably going to falls (big ass festival) so ill have some bands other people have actually heard of soon enough

Well, I know Ozomatli have won a grammy and aren't that obscure but aside from them and the two you mentioned I'm not familiar with the rest of the people on sothenvsays's list. I'll have to look into them.

Top 5

#1) The Ramones (3 times) - it's the Ramones nuff said
#2) Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - Great stage presence and stunning acoustics, you can't go wrong. Incidentally there's something refreshing about going to a show without a mosh pit, I dunno maybe I'm just getting old.
#3) The Queers (8 times) - I go to see them every year, always fun and always consistant. Also it tends to bring out the high school punx that I used to hang out with, it's always a nice reunion
#4) The Rolling Stones - Cool tunes, stunning visuals, and great session musicians. The sax player blew me away
#5) The Vandals - Sheer hilarity from start to finish, always great fun for just over 10 bucks. If you walk out of that show without a big smile on yer kisser you really need to kill yourself

Muse will probably always be my number one pick. I saw them last year, on the last tour, and it was beyond description. I just saw Nine Inch Nails, last night, and it was a close second. The lighting effects are bringing shows to a whole new level.
