As much as the thought of geriatric rock critics jacking off grosses me out they are right to do so in this case.

I guess I'll be the last one on Earth to think the first responsibility of rock music is to you know...rock...introduce some anarchy...compel people to jump up and down...make women scream

Well no wonder rock is obsolete then because EDM, hip hop and pop all have a much better track record when it comes to that.

Oh it looks like you edited your post and I missed it, you originally just said the purpose of rock is to make women dance, I was responding to that.

But those genres do those other things better too soooooooo yeah.

I'm not talking about solos necessarily, just blues noodling during the verse
Gotcha. I don't mind some noodling. Hearing Jeff Healey rip in between verses of See The Light, it's great.

I don't think it's obsolete. It's been overtaken by the rappers and country stars. Country is the new rap. They'll be the next batch of "rock stars".

I think throwing little licks into the verses is cool, it changes things up and makes songs feel less repetitive.

It's true, house music gets the party poppin.

If I had to guess which rock show gets the biggest crowd these days, I'd guess the Foo Fighters. Yuck.
