as was..

"Freak Out!" by The Mothers of Invention.
"Blonde on Blonde" by Bob Dylan
"The Beatle" [The White Album] by The Beatles

MC&tIS was alright, not my favorite album by the Pumpkins (that still goes to "Siamese Dream"). It would still be in my top 5, but it doesn't hold a candle to "Daydream Nation".
Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart, Kobaïa by Magma, Disco 3000 by Sun Ra, Third by Soft Machine, and Stations of Crass by Crass are all decent double LPs as well. I certainly wouldn't rank Daydream Nation as the best, though. I love Sonic Youth, but all that album did was make noise rock more accessible -- it's over-hyped (I suppose that is an unpopular opinion all on its own). I prefer Confusion Is Sex anyways...

Freak Out! is just an okay album, too.

Daydream Nation gets hyped cause of the influential aspect. It is still a great album though. Maybe not their best... I do not know what I would call besy from SY, so much great stuff they have done.

Yeah, Trout Mask Replica belongs in top 5...

Never been big on Crass personally, so not sure about that one. I am sure to it's fans it would rank high, but I do not know... something about Crass never appealed to me.

Have not heard the rest personally to say.

a few more (i am looking at a list of double albums to see what i may of missed)

The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
Jimi Hendrix – Electric Ladyland
Pink Floyd – Ummagumma
Ramones – It's Alive
The Rolling Stones – Exile on Main St.

Yeah, I thought I said them, meant to.. but yeah, those albums are great. "Zen Arcade" more so.. though I do like "Warehouse...", was the first album i heard by them, ordered it from BMG music club.. and thought it was great. "No Reservations" is still one of my favorite songs by them.

Don't worry, you'll grow out of it when you hear better albums.

And while we're on the subject

Double Nickels On The Dime = Boring

Best double album: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. And that's probably a reasonably popular opinion outside of rock critics.

Apart from Beatles' white, the best double albums are of course Who - Quadrophenia, Yes - Tales from topographic oceans and Genesis - The lamb lies down on Broadway. Add George Harrison's All things must pass to that list if you subtract the "Apple jam", otherwise that one would be the best triple album.

Unpopular Music Opinion:

The best most recent album I've heard was Adam Lambert's For Your Entertainment.
Just amazing!
