Well most musicologist would place the roots of the Blues in African music from Africa, even though it [the Blues] developed in the West and is part of its culture.

That said, it's still overemphasized. There's lots of bars you can go to hear raw blues but nowhere that you can get Polish folk music. Why? The common populous are made to believe it's generally inferior.

There is no demand to hear polish folk music not because the populous is made to think it's inferior. If you go to a polish neighborhood, there would be a higher demand for polish folk music and you'd find a spot there

It would be nice to see music festivals dedicated to some of the more "overlooked" genres.

The fact remains they're just not that popular or in demand.

Annual Music Festivals are becoming one of the latest and most used trends in the promotion of music these days. In every small town between each major city in the US, there has been an Annual Blues (Festival) Bash for the last decade or so.

But as we all know, blues can get seemingly boring and repetitious after awhile. So in return, the demand for the more traditional "Delta Blues" and "New Orleans" styles seem to be on the rise.

I personally think that "Cajun" music is one of the most underrated and missed genres.

Rock critics greatly overemphasize blues and other stuff they consider more rootsy like r&b. And this in turn in our global world has greatly affected other people in other countries and their view of music and what is important. However some musical elements that make up western blues are not necessarily specific only to western culture I suspect.

This one particular instance is where I would consider using "race" as an example. I think a large number of cowboys back in the day were actually of "African Descent". (So..maybe..)

Polish neighborhoods still exist?

Besides, I'm talking of mainstream populous. You can't pick up the Rolling Stone, and get some information on the top stylist of Polish music. But, you can get a three page article of a blues rocker from 50 years ago.

Yes they do exist, but mostly in urban areas.

Also your example still goes back to what I was saying earlier. You want niche genres to get more exposure when there is no demand for it.

Well, what makes a genre niche further than lacking exposure? Blues is overemphasized and kind of beat over the listeners head even to an early age. If not blues, blues based rock. Where as, the exposure to alternate genres, apart from electronic genres, isn't really there.

What makes a genre niche is also lack of interest not just that it isnt exposed enough.
