Seeing a band live (music video, cd, albums, shows, quote)

i think that being a 'musician' and being an 'artist' are two different things in the music industry. To be financially successful you need to be both, and may have to compromise the first for the second.

IMO the first is far more important. after all.. im going to spend most of my time listening to music on CD in my on home. At that moment, their image/fan base/stage presence doesn't matter one bit, all i want is good music.

plus i agree with unfan. music has changed alot. obviously digital effects are often used to improve otherwise poor music, but there are hundreds of musicians out there who also use it as an instrument.. and it can take just as much talent to use well.

I dont disagree I just think that music sounds better live and not only because of the talent level or lack there of..but because of the vibe and the atmosphere at concerts..

Huge venues suck. Small shows kick ass because they'll actually talk to you. You can buy the album directly from them and you can punch them in the face if you want to.

I get the impression that you are talking more from a rock standpoint.
There are many bands who can only do what they do in the studio. There are many bands who don`t even think about playing live when they write their music.
I don`t think the lack of a live show takes anything away from these bands.

So no I don`t think it makes any difference to how good they are.

Actually I must contradict myself because I love smaller venues as well. I met Miles Beyond and Liv Kristine from Leaves' Eyes at the Blind Guardian concert at a small venue in detroit. I also met Ashes of Soma at a Michigan festival in Grand Blanc. I dont really mean to be superstars, and the bands I see live at small venues still put on AMAZING live shows.

Small venues are the shi! cuz you get to be up close and personal. Ive seen System of a Down, Soulfly, and Mudvayne in clubs and they were the best shows ive ever been to. Ive seen Mudvayne at larger places and its just not the same not nearly as intimate.

if you like to go to see band i have to agree, smaller is better, you don't want to get stuck up in say 5 floor at the back where their looking like ants
