Phantogram - Voices

They really had me anticipating this one a lot with 'Black Out Days' playing nonstop on Sirius XMU and getting stuck in my head all the time. The album did not disappoint. If you liked their debut Eyelid Movies, then this is right up your alley. It improves on just about every aspect of that album and finds Phantogram much more confident and natural in their sound. One of my favorites for this year so far.

Plus Sarah Barthel looks like a young Grace Slick...and Grace Slick was hot.

Gabor Szabo - Jazz Raga (1966)

An old favorite from jazz guitarist Gabor Szabo, mixing folk, jazz, rock, psych and sitar music with an occasional Latin beat.

Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. - The Penultimate Galactic Bordello Also the World You Made

This album has four 60ish minute tracks of pure psychedelica. I highly recommend listening to this album because there's a lot of back-and-forthiness that really adds to the trippiness, which this album really delivers on. So yeah, a bunch of Japanese space jams that really kick ass, who knew? My one beef on the album (and Acid Mothers Temple in general) is the theremin/synth/whatever the hell that is doesn't really have much variety. It's just a lot of up and down. I've done acid before and I get what they're going for with that part, but geez, buy that guy a delay pedal or something.

i uh

im not sure i would find a whole lot of enjoyment outta that one, frownie. how exactly does it not get boring beyond belief?

edit: went and found some of their stuff on the Tube. the weird thing is that they actually make some great psychedelica, but man does it seem to drag. i don't think i'd ever be able to listen to the album more than once or even more than one track in a day, but i might give it a shot

Well for one you've got to like the music a lot, an two it's not like they're droning on the same riff for an hour (not this album anyway). They do have albums with shorter songs if the length is your dig. That being said, I take the album one track at a time unless I've got a real hankering for some acid mothers, then maybe I'll listen to two. I think this is one of their better albums though.

Saw acid mothers temple in Seattle around 2005 or so and my mind was blown. Very talented band. I will have to check it out.

My favorite album from the Acid Mothers' Temple is probably Pink Lady Lemonade, but The Penultimate... ain't too shabby.
