I wasn't sure I'd like this based on samples I initially heard and the intro to the first track. But even just after the first spin I knew I was into this. Ooo, I had no idea they had a new album coming out. How would you describe the style of this one?

Slakah The Beatchild Soul Movement Vol 2

Slakah took 6 years to release his follow-up and for me, it was worth the wait. I've heard the new album described as "soulful hip-hop" and that's fairly accurate. More experimental, organic & lyrical than the first album- and I prefer the mix of R&B genres to the more straightforward contemporary R&B sound of that first release.

Synth punk? There's some Dance Punk to it but that term makes me think of The Rapture and they piss me off. When the first track kicks off you think they've gone tech house or something, but that goes away and it remains very electronic but cool. I think synth punk is the best way I can describe it. It's not overly crazy or loud - tends to get more chill toward the end as well.

Coven of the wolves --- When Bitter Spring Sleeps

Pagan metal or new-age with a metal edge? Hard to say really. This is actually a one-man show, where all instruments are played by Lord Sardonyx (yeah I know) who seems to have a real affinity with nature. Acoustic ballads switch with heavier, more metal riffs and some amazing lyrics. The closing track is just like eight minutes of a rainstorm, no music. Keep an eye on this guy.

L'Orange - The Orchid Days

Great jazzy trip-hop right here. I hadn't listened to any of L'Orange's other releases but now I'm seriously inclined to. There are a lot of old jazz samples as well as sound bites from old films that work together very well. This album features Erik Todd Dellums, Erica Lane, Homeboy Sandman, Blu, Jeremiah Jae, and Billy Woods, the latter's track is the best on the album.

Really beautiful album cover too. Sounds like something I'll be checking out.
