Deep, ominous, nocturnal ambient. All of the tracks are named after submarines, so it's got an aquatic theme. An essential of the genre if you ask me

Beach House | B-Sides & Rarities

After not hearing any tracks leading up to this record and not having any expectations too high because of the disaster of their last two back to back records, I'm pleasantly surprised to report that this puts Beach House back in my top favorite bands of the past 10 years again. Might not be original material but surely reminds me of their stature in the game.

Billy Woods - Known Unknowns

His best solo material since History Will Absolve Me. I was a big fan of Dour Candy and Today, I Wrote Nothing (as far as album-spanning concepts, TIWN is probably his best record), but this seems like a more natural progression from History than Dour Candy was. Blockhead shapes up his production on this, every feature is great and doesn't feel unnecessary, and Woods is wry as ever. Few hooks I would have left out though.

Basic Bitches - The Rise and Fall of

I can't stop listening to the debut of this band that I'm totally not involved with.

Various Artists - Baby Driver Soundtrack

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have been really digging the soundtrack, and have actually found a few bands that I'm going to explore more in depth.

^ Saw that in theaters yesterday. Pretty much a perfect soundtrack, especially since it wasn't all obvious single stuff.

Anyhoo...

Bart Graft - Go For Broke! (2017)
A modern synthwave soundtrack for the life of some American Psycho-styled yuppie who really likes Joe Satriani (as opposed to Phil Collins)

Jimmie Spheeris - Isle Of View (1971)
Yummie yummie proggy folk rock in my tummie.

Paul Horn - Inside The Taj Mahal (1972)
People love their Brian Eno, but I think ambient music owes a lot more to this guy and the magnificent work he did on this record in particular. An experience unlike any other.

this is the first time i've listened to a project spearheaded by Colin Stetson, despite being familiar with a lot of his work with other groups. i was hesitant because i thought i would be disappointed just because of how hyped up he is around here, but nah, this totally kicks ass.

sarah neufeld is pretty rad as well.
