SWIRLIES-They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days in the Glittering World of the Salons

Early 90's shoegaze with hints of Electronica.. Fans of My Bloody Valentine may well like them.

ABSENCE-The decomposition Process

Fairly standard power/ thrash metal that has kept me entertained for a few days.

NOMEANSNO-Wrong

Fantastic punkpopnoise that utilises odd time signatures and a progressive bent to their sound.

KATCHAFIRE-Slow Burning.

Good solid roots Reggae from NZ. My only gripe is the use of saxophone on some tracks. It is'nt mixed well and comes across as cheesy 80's nu-soul when used. otherwise when they just stick to horns they are very good. If Bob Marley is your only taste of Reggae then give them a listen.

Just an EP, with some un-released stuff and whatnot
But I'm so in love with it at the moment,
It's got some really good songs on it

BT - ESCM

It's taken far too long for me to pick up any BT stuff. I've no idea whether this is considered to be a good place to start, but it's a great album.

Sear Bliss - Glory and Perdition

Often overlooked as merely a 'black metal band who use trombones,' SB have been producing some of the most consistent metal in the past few years.

El Ten Eleven - Every Direction is North

Another record which I've taken far too long to listen to. I prefer it to the s/t because it retains the light, optimistic feel whilst being more coherent as an album.

Boris - Heavy Rocks

I honestly don't know why so many people thought Pink was their best album ever: this blows it out of the universe imo...

Another of my prog rock discoveries, after a brief stint in which they recorded this awesome album "Growers of Mushroom" Leaf Hound members went off to bands such as Foghat, Free and Atomic Rooster. While not as successful as these latter bands Leaf Hound is measures above in all possible ways. The album starts and ends rocking just as hard as Led Zeppelin ever did, while venturing into deep prog tinted tracks as well as a lot of short but powerful songs. (PM me if you want it) This is however a lot more than just a hard rock album forgotten in the sands of time, this is an instant classic to everyone who hears it. Pure brilliance.

Modest Mouse "The Moon and Antarctica"

Often considered their masterpiece and while it isn't my favorite this is the album that got me into Modest Mouse and its damn good. This album is quite a bit to swallow like the Soft Bulletin or 69 Love Songs but when it hits it really hits.
Favorite Songs: 3rd Planet, Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, Gravity Rides Everything, Wild Pack of Family Dogs, The Stars are Projectors, Paper Thin Walls

Thao Nguyen with the Get Down Stay Down "We Brave Bee Stings And All"

Like Cat Power but happy, like Feist but good, It's Thao Nguyen with the Get Down Stay Down. This is one of my favorite releases of 08 currently and one of my favorite releases currently, ever since I heard it two hours ago I've been listening to it on repeat =]. I basically described the sound so uh, yeah check it out it's solid and fun and happy.

The Thermals "The Body, The Blood, The Machine"

Built to Spill inspired indie-pop with punk tendencies in vein of the Hold Steady. Oregon rockers the Thermals are one of my favorite artists right now I'm glad I checked them out, they've been on my radar for awhile but I've never listened to them until now.

Jens Lekman "Night Falls Over Kortedala"

Beautiful Swedish indie-pop, Jens lyrics are full of witticism and pure genius and coupled with one of the most beautiful voices of the past 10 years he manages to create one of my favorite albums ever. I've been listening to this more and more lately.

Boys Noize - Oi Oi OI
enjoying this just now, some good dance music. First time Ive listened to it all the way through, but favourable first impression.

Skream - s/t
Skream is, after Burial, my next foray into the world of dubstep. I've listened to this 4 times this week and now that it's sunk in fully, I'm enjoying it immensely. Next up on the dubstep playlist is Kode9 & the Spaceape, and then Benga.

Slowdive - Pygmalion
This album has fully engrossed me this week...I liked it a lot before but after a while without hearing it i stuck it on earlier in the week, and now I'm addicted. I love everything about it, every song is excellent and the production is immense. I would without hesitation place it in my top 15 albums of all time.

Thurston Moore - Trees Outside the Academy
Really digging this album by Sonic Youth's guitarist...nice to see that he's capable of making great music with acoustic guitars, as well as his normal electric dissonant style. Much better than his previous solo album (not counting the many noise releases he's done)
