Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There Are Mountains

Really quite wonderful. The verse-chorus structure is conspicuous in its absence on this album, in its place are sweeping, soaring and diving soundscapes, executed with simultaneous delicacy and aggression. Highly recommended.

And So I Watch You From Afar - And So I Watch You From Afar

One of the best Post-Rock albums i've heard for ages. Relentless in its brutality.

Just played these 2 Pixies classics. Aww yeah. I played PJ Harvey's Dry again before that and I'm really liking it. It may be the album I enjoy most by her (having not heard a couple still).

I dunno. It just sounds to straight out of the garage to me. Although to be fair I'll give it another try tonight, since I've only heard it 2-3 times and that was about a year ago (last winter).

The Small Faces - Odgen's Nut Gone Flake (1967)

I think I'm finally realizing the appeal to the first wave of British psychedelia. It's my first real encounter with the Small Faces, anyway.

The Jam - Sound Affects (1980)

I really wish more more punk albums grabbed me like this one. Not as raw as some, but with more balls and energy than London Calling could muster. Probably on par with Machine Gun Etiquette, from my standpoint.

Nice.

Initially when I got that album I was annoyed by the between-track jibber-jabber. It seemed to dominate. But I got over it, and it doesn't get in the way anymore.

oh those were goofy years for every band in the loop. just look at the shit bands like the Red Krayola were trying to pull.

Never heard of 'em. Doesn't sound like I should bother.

But yeah I see what you're saying, this may have been one of the first albums of the era in which I heard such goofiness, so I hadn't warmed up to it.

I don't know why the majority of the albums released in the 60s include some weird dialogs between the band members and usually the insertion of the sentence "Hello? Operator?" in the middle of it all. Tho I have to admit, I love those goofy things. The stupider, the better.

oh no, i love the Red Krayola. it just seems that theirs was a time of being weird for the sake of it, a perpetual series of one-upmanships that evolved into "we're going to do something FREAKY!" just because they could. and most of it still seems pretty tame compared to what real nutjobs like the knobs in Nihilist Spasm Band were doing. but i digress.

point being i don't really take anything from 1967-1969 too seriously.
