This thirty-second clip describes the album quite well actually; it's has a lot of powerful chord progressions around the 12 and 45 minute marks that give the piece a lot of dynamic movement, but in between those sections, there's a lot of scattering, fragile droning that sort of ties it together. It's the kind of recording that purposely deactivates itself to build suspense and make the moving sections all the more powerful. If you like that kind of thing, I can't recommend it enough. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind for the past few days.

Great Album. It's obvious the lack of communication between the Syd and the guys in some of the tracks, half of the time they're just trying to follow along to his guitar, it makes it that much more pure though.

Slowly making it's way to the list of my favorite albums. Perfect from beginning to end. Amazing album.

This is one of those albums that puts a big mirror up to your sonic sensibilities and sheds light on your core as a music lover. What you love, what you hate, and what you will and will not tolerate. Thus, Tales From Topographic Oceans is the ultimate test of endurance for quite a few, and not the happy kind of test either. For others however, this will comes across as something like a post-rock album from the 1970's and they'll be in nirvana the whole trip through.

Personally, I love this album (been giving it a spin or two lately) and from there I can deduce that A. I have a better attention span than most people, B. I don't judge the how good or bad an album is on how pretentious it is and C. Progressive rock is and always will be the place I go back to when I get tired of everything else.

Recommended for anyone (who hasn't heard it it yet anyway) looking for something challenging.

Listening to lots of Brazilian stuff lately, especially

Every track is a gem. The intro to 'Baby' is fantabulous.

Also Milton Nascimento.

Full of songs so gorgeous it should be illegal. Just in time for summer.

That's a cool album cover and I'm a fan of Yes, so I might just check that out
