Nothing Lasts was supposed to be their last album, but fans demanded he keep making music. That's why Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongland came out...and now a fifth album is on the way for next year.

Simon Posford is an electronic music genius. If you haven't heard his other projects, you need to. Hallucinogen and Younger Brother are essentials...the Dub Trees is his more chill/experimental side.

All this talk about jazz reminded me how much I loved this album:

Fourth (1971) by Soft Machine

Soft Machine is one of my favorite prog rock bands of all time (ranking with Henry Cow, Spirit, and Gentle Giant). Fourth, however, is much more jazz-oriented than their three previous albums. Even though this release dropped most (if not all) of the progressive rock elements that we all attribute with the Canterbury scene, this is still a fantastic jazz album.

What I love about it is it's persistent weirdness, yet the music is always tangible and never becomes too free jazzy, if you no what I mean.

To Jack Pat, i've been meaning to check out Soft Machine as well as Tangerine Dream. I've overcome my punk snob attitude towards prog and have discovered a couple of great albums in the form of Familys Music In a Dolls House and the first Crimson album. I still can't stand Tull, Yes and Floyd though.

I'm really glad to hear that. From what I have heard, going from punk to prog can be a bit of a difficult task for some (they're both contrasting sub-genres of rock, so it is understandable). Although, I'm going to have to say I love both Yes and Pink Floyd...

Yeah I heard that, it's really good comes in close second. For me Tales of the Inexpressible is my favorite. And Hallucinogen is really good to great material. Surprisingly I haven't heard any Dub Trees thinking I need to check 'em out. Know any albums to start out with?

Really good, the mix of acid house and experimental tracks are really all over the board here. I'm really digging the variety.

Separation - Balance and Composure

Absolutely amazing, without a doubt my favorite of the year so far, and becoming one of my favorites in general. It's such a heartbreaking album but it's defining a really good time in my life that I'm in right now, and it's a really strange feeling. It makes me feel all nostalgic and fuzzy even though I got it about 10 days ago.
