Seriously digging on this at the moment. It's as if the band got to the studio, sat down and said "Right, there's this guy in England called Stu who simply has to like our album, so we'll flood it with everything that makes his gonads tingle with musical delight". It's abrasive, noisy, atmospheric and spacey, taking the form of Psychedelic Drone with an unhinged, Indie twist. It's sinister, dreamy and heavy all at once, with the lo-fi aesthetic just amplifying its shadowy, otherworldly charm. Fast becoming one of my favourite Kranky releases, and that's saying something.

Yuh, pretty enamoured.

Elliott BROOD - Days Into Years (2011)

So this is probably one of the albums I was looking forward to most this year and it doesn't disappoint. I was a little skeptical at first after the single "Northern Air" was released, it sounded more of the same, but that song is not a clear representation of the album. This album is far more rock orientated, lots of overdrive, yet not enough to completely drown the album. Songs like "West End Sky" and the aforementioned "Northern Air" do nod towards their previous two albums and EP, yet they're not so steeped in nostalgia that it gets in the way of the music. The lyrics are really where the album excels; the band was traveling through the back roads of France and came across a memorial for the Canadian soldiers who died in World War I. The overall theme of the album is about the millions of lives taken because of the War, an entire generation of young men silenced and countless lives displaced because of the conflict. "If I Get Old" talks about the dreams of just surviving the conflict to go home, the reward is just being allowed to grow old and live easy. Overall this is an album that should not be overlooked and if you like alternative country, indie rock, or folk, this is definitely an album (and band) that deserve your attention.

Some alt-country from Perth Australia, and there's more than a hint of David McComb and Jim White to the whole thing...sounds a bit like a Triffids album with the psychedelic sheen stripped away.

I'm looking for more stuff similar to Arms and Sleepers, preferably without, or with more subdued vocals, and with a lot of the textural elements that are replete in their songs. You'd be the one to ask about this, CanwllCorfe.

Achh. That's a tough one. If I found someone that reminded me of Arms & Sleepers, I'd be one hell of a happy man. It's so tough. A lot of their material seems to be influenced by Jazz, which is pretty easy to spot in Black Paris 86, and even more so on their latest offering (A Man, A Plan, A Canal: Panama). But then there's the downtempo/Ambient side to them, combined with genres that you'd mentioned in your earlier post. There's artists who may be similar, but only in one or two facets. The American Dollar and The Echelon Effect are two that come to mind, but they're both Post Rock combined with elements of Ambient (much like Hammock). Although their sound is more cinematic and dramatic than Arms & Sleepers' is.

So, with that said, there is a few that at least make me feel the same way. Those being Flica, The Abbasi Brothers, Burial (to some extent anyway), as well as Shlohmo (his softer material). Hopefully someone else will be able to chime in, but that's unfortunately all I got!

EDIT: Maybe even Four Tet? Damn. I wish I had more stuff like this.
