Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer is their best album, and it also explains the following three albums in their career as well as serving as a great insight into Kevin Barnes.

Finally got a turntable from my girlfriend so I dug out some records I have had for sometime the first one I put on was Satana III and I am loving it. I was never a big fan of Satana the only thing I really heard from him was his new stuff and that song with Rob Thomas. After listening to this three times in a row it's safe to say I am a fan now lol, I will definitely be on the lookout for Abraxes the next time I visit the record store

Sunlandic Twins and Satanic Panic in the Attic are both better, imho

Satanic Panic is flawless for the first six songs, and then the quality plummets after that. I also find the Sunlandic Twins to be their least interesting release in the second half of their career.

Even speaking generally though, Hissing Fauna sets the stage for every album after it, and for that alone I think it's an important place to start.

I am currently listening to Hissing Fauna for the first time. I have to say I am very very impressed and I am very excited to both give this another listen, and to explore some more. Would you guys suggest looking at some of the older stuff first or to move forward in their discography?

Also, more in line with the thread. I have been playing Youth Lagoon's The Year of Hibernation, and I'm liking it a lot. Very good album in my opinion.

After realizing that Beefheart did more than just Trout Mask Replica I jumped right in. I've been listening to Safe As Milk for the past few days and it is rockin my socks! Beefheart's voice just does it for me in all the right ways.

This is an interesting question. If you prefer the sounds of the 60s, go earlier with something like the Gay Parade. If you like lighthearted psychedelic pop along the lines of Fauna, then Satanic Panic in the Attic. If you appreciate self-indulgent chaos, funky dance oriented singles, and obnoxious falsetto, Skeletal Lamping or False Priest. If you like neo-psychedelia with a touch of modern classical experimentation, go Paralytic Stalks.

SIANspheric - Somnium (1995)
Mr Dave mentioned them in the recommendations thread and curiosity led me to investigate. This is some pretty great shoegaze/space-rock from Canada. Soft and floaty delay-drenched soundscapes are broken up by what I can only describe as stratospheric sheets of distortion raining down from the heavens. The vocals are pretty well-done for music like this, they have a bit of a soulful feel and they play a big part in their songs. This is an album that will take your head into the clouds and blow your mind in the process.

I know it was pretty mainstream, but I've yet to delve into music that I don't know a thing about.

The Cranberries - No Need To Argue

Great relaxing album. The woman I marry shall have to be Irish.
