Yes that William Shatner, and before you snicker and not take anything I have to say about music seriously, I want you to listen to this album, because it's fantastic. Look I know it seems hard to give this album a try just because of who it's by, but I can at least guarantee you won't walk away hating it. It may not change your life, but it very well may change your outlook on the actor and it is something you probably would not have bothered to give the time of day to before. This is really one of the perfect examples of "don't judge a book by its cover".

I don't get the whole "folk" label attached to this album. But it's a great album.

It's summer. I've been going on more drives through the back counties of my state and this album has been playing on a lot of them. They're actually from a town near me so I guess it makes it more interesting knowing they grew up driving the same roads I am. It's just such a relaxing bright album.

Eddie Vedder - Ukulele Songs (2011)

I absolutely adored the Into The Wild OST and have been listening to this a hell of a lot lately too. I always liked Eddie Vedders voice. A great voice can often be technically imperfect and his voice is a prime example of this as far as I'm concerned. I liked it but I didnt know if he could pull off folk, he did. I still wasnt sure if he could pull off an album consisting of mostly just his voice and a ukulele, he can. There is nothing here to mask any imperfections, nowhere to hide, it is mostly stripped down completely and personally I think its a beautiful record.

EDIT: I also listened to that Shatner record yesterday and likewise, I was rather impressed. I felt it was so pretentious at first but only until I listened to a few more tracks and "got it".

It continues in the eastern direction that God is Good layed down, and aside from the "single" State of Non-Return, there isn't much metal about this album. You've got foreign tongues and wailing females and OH LAWD the violins just titillate when combined with the tradition OM bass riffing.

The new drummer, Amos, throws in more fills and is a bit more crunchy than his predecessor. I know some traditional OMists will dislike it because it does contrast pretty starkly with Hakius' minimalism, but I think it makes their formula more interesting.
