Peter Brotzmann & Bill Laswell - Low Life/Last Exit

A split between two projects containing both Brotzmann and Laswell. Low Life is a bass sax, bass, and repetitive dubbing. It's a grimy, metallic monster that's about as bassy as one can get. It's slower than Brotzmann's normal stuff, which is usually incredibly spastic, and the ten tracks by Low Life are all fantastic.

Last Exit is Brotzmann, Sharrock, Laswell, & Ronald Shannon Jackson. Here's where we get Brotzmann's trademark spasticity, and it's only helped by being accompanied by Sharrock's guitar playing and fantastic drums from Jackson. The group is great all around and it's some wonderful heavy free jazz.

Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic (2013)
This is a very enjoyable 60s psychedelic pop throwback, sounds pretty authentic compared to a lot of stuff. Their first album was very Bowie and T. Rex influenced, pretty glam. The sound here is much more refined and the glam influence is minimal. Just a great psych pop album. Too bad their name is stupid.

Nice! I just listened to this today myself. It's pretty decent. I had never heard them before...and honestly, it was the name that got me to check them out. I figured anyone who's gonna name their band that has to have something going on. Like the Butthole Surfers.

I think we are finally getting into the swing of things with 2013...this was a solid album, Yo La Tengo's - Fade, Toro y Moi - Anything in Return, Gliss - Langsom Dans (anyone who heard Devotion Implosion and liked it, be wary...they are starting to move away from the fuzzy shoegaze sound. But in a nice way)...all good stuff.

It's been quite a while since I've listened to Zappa (I got a little oversaturated on him for a while there), and this certainly does the job. Apart from One Size Fits All and Apostrophe, I think this may be my favourite of his. The perfect amount of proggy orchestration, catchy bits, and humour. Not to mention the fantastic solos and vocals on the album.

Nero's Day At Disneyland—From Rotting Fantasylands
I may have posted about this before but I've really been enjoying this album for the past few weeks. It's wonderful fucked up music for life's fucked up moments. The closest thing I can compare it to is Igorrr, though this is a little less hard-edged and a lot less baroque.

Boduf Songs - Burnt Up On Re-Entry (2013)

It's got a couple of real standout tracks and the occasional dud, but overall this is a very solid album that further showcases Mat Sweet's evolution from contemporary folk into rock. Some songs on here really reminded me of Nine Inch Nails' [With Teeth] while others sounded like more polished versions of his earlier work. In either case I'm happy I decided to swallow my pride and buy the album on iTunes because this is so far the best thing I've heard all year.

It astounds me how wack ass rappers like Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, and Kendrick Lamar get the **** hyped out of them but this wack ass rapper doesn't get hyped. This is a pretty good Wiz Khalifa impersonation, I'm digging it.

I don't get it. King Louie is boring as ****, like Wiz Khalifa in a way, I guess. I pretty much agree that none of the rappers you listed deserve the hype. So why hype this guy?

I've been digging an old favorite that I was reminded of yesterday. I think I listened to Start Today about 8 times in the last 24 hours.
