I'll give Cats of the Wild another listen...It's been a while since I've heard it.

What did you think of the Lilys? I never had a chance to see them live. They recorded 5 or 6 excellent albums in the 90s.

The 90s had more innovative rock bands than any era but very few of those bands survived past the year 2000. After the success of Nevermind in 1991, a lot of record labels were frantically trying to sign up the next Nirvana & then they fired the bands when they found out they weren't going to be the same triple platinum cash cow Nirvana was. I was completely surprised that Radiohead turned out to be the most successful rock band of the 90s because they were a lot more experimental than most alternative bands.

I'm equally upset, and Bosnian Rainbows really doesn't sound like the band worth leaving one of best prog bands of our time. Although I'm basing that statement from their one song they've released so far, which I didn't warm up to as much as I wanted.

I will forever remember the first time I listened to Deloused. I was at a LAN shop with some friends playing some Battlefield:1942. I had just bought Deloused at the HMV across the street and it was really a random buy. I kinda liked the cover. I popped it into my CD player and was subsequently mind ****ed. It didn't leave my CD player for months after that. I just couldn't understand how everyone else didn't recognize how freaking amazing it was. I was officially a music snob from that point on.

So to say the Mars Volta are a very personal band for me is an understatement.

And I agree about that Bosnian Rainbows song. I also don't think Omar's solo stuff is too great either. There are moments...but it's nothing like a Volta album.

R.E.M. - Fables of the Reconstruction
I think this is the most underrated of the early R.E.M. albums. I always forget about it, many people seem to forget about it, but it's great. I particularly love the first track "Feeling Gravity's Pull". Great song.

Elliott Smith - Roman Candle
I listen to XO so much, so much. I listen to Either/Or and Figure 8 quite a bit. I hardly ever listen to the rest. I always forget how good this album is. The title track is one of his best for sure.

They didn't make much of an impression on me to be honest. I had never heard of them at the time and found them pretty bland. Since then I've been surprised to discover how many people love them. I've still never bothered with any of their albums.

Can't really add much to what others have said, but gotta say....pretty swoll.

Toshiki Kadomatsu - All Is Vanity (1991)

One of the world's undisputed masters of the whole beach-oriented jazz pop sound (as well as being an insanely good guitarist), this record marks one of the few occasions where some of Toshiki-san's instrumental fusion tendencies made headway into his vocal songwriting. Doesn't hurt that he's a brilliant producer either...

The first time I experience Deloused was when I was a freshman on my walk to school. I downloaded it cause I loved At The Drive In and wanted to see how different they both were. By the time I got to school, my head was so ****ed with eargasms that I didn't bother to do anything that day at school. Just hid from the teachers and listened to the album 3 times that day. Then I gave Frances The Mute a listen and they instantly became one of my favorite bands. They helped me through the first couple years of high school.

I still remember really wanting to be able to play those songs on guitar but I was just starting out so I definitely couldn't. I guess I still probably couldn't haha.

I heard At the Drive In after the Mars Volta and was really surprised to hear so much of their prog side already there. I wonder how Sparta feels comparing themselves to TMV?

I've always avoided modern hardcore like the plague after being put off by Hatebreed, but I just randomly decided to check out Madball and I'm loving this album. Just about every song is like crack and begs to be listened to again and again. It's definitely the kinda hardcore that inspired deathcore, but it's infinitely superior to any of those shitpiles. The lyrics are about as cliched as you can get, but I've never really cared that much for lyrics.

Although this is just goofy.
