Khaira Arby Timbuktu Tarab

Desert blues from Mali. Arby's vocals are amazingly soulful in an Aretha Franklin way. Great songwriting and musicianship throughout.

Mum Smilewound

Another winner from the Icelandic electronic group. Great instrumentals & vocal tracks including the bonus track, "Whistle", which features Kylie Minogue(!) on vocals.

I like almost all of the tracks on here, with the exception of skinny love. also, a lot people who listen to birdy don't seem to realize that all of these songs are covers. good covers, but still, she didn't write them.

The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die - Whenever, If Ever (2013)

I'm still enamored with this emo-revival thing, although these guys mix a heavy dose of post-rock and Neutral Milk Hotel into their sound. My favorite record of 2013 to date.

Tigers Jaw - Self-Titled (2008)

This is an album that was at the forefront of the (Midwest) emo-revival that seems to be centered around Philly and the eastern seaboard today. You've gotta be able to handle grating emo vocals to enjoy this, but I think it's among the most punchy guitar work in the genre.

Haim - Days Are Gone (2013)

Man, this is how pop rock is supposed to sound. I hope they blow up, if they haven't already...
