The Mars Volta: De-Loused In The Comatorium
The Smiths & Portishead I know nothing about. Sad probably, sorry. Ill have to check out what people recommended you.

Tool: Honestly I think you could start anywhere, AEnima, Lateralus or 10,000 Days. Theyre all good!

The Mars Volta: Definitely De-Loused In The Comatorium amazing album!

Warrior On the Edge Of Time's the only one I have, and it's all kinds of awesome. I'll get a link your way a bit later.

I'm offended by your omission of Undertow in that statement!

I'd suggest Aenima for beginners, personally. Undertow could be seen as dated and Lateralus could be seen as too challenging at first.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I would just start at the beginning and work my way through... you can hear the progression of their sound that way, and it avoids disappointment at hearing something older when you like the newer stufff better... ya know... just my thoughts...

No offense meant, I just haven't heard that album yet. Sorry about that. I will check it out now though.

No problem...it's just you said "you could start anywhere" but left that one out, didn't know you hadn't heard it.

I have their entire discog as they are one of my faves. The 70's were a lot more psychedelic with long jams, the 80's saw them take a heavier approach and the 90's were just patchy with occasional bursts of brilliance. If you need any just holler back.
