Nah I understand, I find it hard to say anything super positive about a band who sounds so much like a much better one. I wasn't super impressed by their either, it's just been so long that I can't really remember what else you listen to so I went for the obvious choice first.

Hey guys, I'm trying to find more songs that are played by epic orchestras. Not really sure how to describe them properly, but they're the kinds that are played in movies like lone ranger, pirates of the carribean etc. An example i have is "he's a pirate", the main theme song from the aforementioned pirates of the carribean. I would appreciate any help i can get. Thx!

I'd suggest you browse through pieces by Hans Zimmer and John Williams. I'm partial to Clint Mansell, if you haven't heard this, give it a go:

Also, if you're into pirates:

Hey Travesty, if you like Pirates of the Caribbean, you might also like the Lord of the Rings soundtracks by Howard Shore. All of the related movies have soundtracks composed by him, they are all beautiful.

Another iconic soundtrack composer is James Newton Howard; he did the soundtrack for Dinosaur, Atlantis, and Signs, of which these are my favorite songs:

That last song always gives me chills.

You should also check out James Horner. He did "Titanic, Jumanji, Braveheart, etc.

I love movie music so hit me up if these are not obscure enough for you.

If I was asking what the best album to start with for any given artist, is this the thread to ask?

Yes you are in the right spot. Which artist are you looking for?

Now when I say beautiful, I really mean "pretty" or "easy/non-harsh" music and by misanthropic, I do not mean it has to be lyrically written in a way as "people suck, blah blah blah".
Have you tried Emily Portman's music? And maybe you already know about her but what about Regina Spektor?
