I think because of this you get a lot more filler on albums because of having to record that amount of material in one go. I think recording smaller amounts more often keeps things a lot fresher & more spontaneous.
Couldn't agree more.
And I'd forgotten how often albums from bands came out back then.

RATM is my younger brother's favorite band. I think they're pretty good personally. Guerilla Radio is pretty amazing.

A lot of smaller bands still do half an hour albums every year and I like it that way.

No doubt. The perfect example of this phenomenon to me is the album Stankonia by Outkast. The fucking thing is an hour and thirteen minutes long and really doesn't need to be, it seems like they were just trying to fill every last bit of disc space. It could easily have been a perfect 40-45 minute album if they cut out the filler, but instead they left it in and ended up with an album that's just mostly good.

In fact I think it's 28 minutes of the most perfect metal I have ever heard and I wouldn't change a thing about it.
Absolutely! Even the 14 minute-long album Group Sex by Circle Jerks seems the perfect length to me since it has, I think, 14 songs on it.

I like RATM, even though la Rocha's lyrics can be really obnoxious at times, I love their funk-metal sound.

What exactly is it with RATM you don't like? Is it that the band are seen as just a front for Zack's rants or does their music bore you?

If RATM bores Urban than I don't know why the fuck he listens to post-rock. Zack's political rants are kinda cliche though.

As far as album length, I think 12 songs is perfect. To me its the standard length, and is niether too short nor too long, 45 minutes, 12 songs.

And I see what you mean with some albums, when its more than 15 songs (assuming it breaches the 45-50 minute mark), it gets tedious. It takes me a long time to get to listen to the other half of those albums, even if I like them.
