Agreed.

The problem isn't ringtones; the problem is people who feel the need to let their phone make a loud, obnoxious sound whenever someone gives them a call. Keep the damn phone in your pocket and set it to vibrate. (Or here's an idea; turn off the fucking thing once in a while! Do you really need to be on-call 24 hours a day in case one of your buddies has something to tell you?)

The Jonas Brothers

Katy Perry
Leona Lewis

Just to name a few........I'm so glad i don't listen to current/modern radio.
I know everyone has already given you a lot of **** for this post, so i will try to keep it short.

As everyone said your obviously being a blatant hypocrite and judging music in which 99% you have not heard. You missed the topic of his post, and listed bands that do not apply. Especially Barkley. He plays with about 4-5 different musicians for all live shows all of which are spectacular, not to mention the entire horns section accompanying it all.

And your last line about radio is complete bull****. The radio plays some pretty great music. For example on my way home from school class today Red House by Jimmi came on, followed by a Cocaine by Clapton. Now if you would take the time to turn the dial and not just judge based on your big city top 40 station you would realize how stupid you are acting. Not to mention the plethora of college radio stations, classical stations, alternative music stations. There is a lot on AM and FM that is completely worth listening to.

I know where you live, so I know you're lying.

I haven't listened to Pittsburgh's radio in years, more or less since I got my iPod, but I had for the longest time, and it wasn't pretty. I grew up listening to WXDX and WDVE, and both just spouted derivative crap (I can't get them where I live now). The deejays are TERRIBLE (Alan Cox was the last good one, and he got fired because of some prick I know), and the closest thing we have to "alternative radio" is Bob FM (96.9). I catch myself listening to NPR on occasion over the weekends to try to pick up some jazz, but apart from that, I haven't discovered shit through our radio.

4 : Preachers

Apparently Thom Yorke wants me to make a more careful & considered choice when it comes to buying chocolate.

Fuck off

Whatever next? Is Chris Martin & Bono going to stand next to my local supermarket checkout going through my trolly to make sure that the coffee I buy gives a fair price to one armed single parent lesbian coffee farmers.... or something.

I'm bored of being concerned about everything. And even if I was moved to do something because of an appeal it certainly wouldn't be because some rock star thinks I should be. Of course i'm going to give a flying fuck about climate change because Bono thinks I should be. Yes I am going to be lectured to about climate change by a man who flies items of clothing first class on jumbo jets. The day my carbon footprint is bigger than yours them you can lecture me , until that day happens shut the fuck up.

And lets be honest , does anyone really give a shit about debt in Africa? I mean what exactly am I supposed to do about it? I didn't lend them the money.
The only reason anybody gave a shit about Live 8 was to see Pink Floyd reform. As far as the cause behind it or the bunch of non entities who played before Pink Floyd , who cares.

Although I can't really include benefit gigs in this. As far as i'm concerned a gig is a gig and once i've paid my money to get in who cares what happens to it. If it goes to a charity then great , more power to you. As long as I get my moneys worth i'm happy.

Basically i'm bored of all these lilly livered liberal rock stars being caring & sharing. If I want to be informed about something i'll pick up a newspaper and read about whats going on. I don't see why I should pay special attention to something you can't keep your gob shut about just because you can strum a couple of chords. If you feel that strongly about something write a song about it. At least that way you'll keep me entertained as you lecture me.

I much prefer my rock stars coked up to the eyeballs talking shite to be honest.

meh... newspapers are usually terrible sources of information

Also, i'd rather here thom yorke tell me about carbon emissions than the agenda-laden news station that is CNN. Because that's what makes it ok sometimes, the musicians are at least a little bit genuine about the cause that they are supporting. Still though, it does get annoying at times. Such as when i bought my radiohead ticket this past summer and received an email encouraging me to find alternative means of transportation to get to the concert. I live 45 minutes away from the venue. No thanks, i'll drive.

Hmm, I don't know. I wouldn't be suprised if Thom Yorke was only a little bit concerned until a corporation that specializes in alternative energy persuaded him with some bucks to sway the young and sheeplike college kids that listen to Radiohead. CNN I can choose not to watch, as a fan of Radiohead, I'm going to be exposed to Thom Yorkes opinions eventually.
