I'd first need to know what you mean by "match." If you mean albums that have a similar sound, the second list will automatically be inferior because they are unoriginal. If you're talking about impact or legendary status, albums from '04-'09 haven't had time to reach that status or have any measurable effect on upcoming bands. And if you're talking about the quality or the album, well, I could come up with a list but it would be entirely subjective. But I'd put a few albums like Oh, You're so Silent Jens, In Rainbows, Neon Bible, and For Emma, Forever Ago against your list. I also feel like hip-hop is at a peak creatively. Again, all of that is subjective, though, so I really can't answer you.

I get ya..but I remember how I felt when I listened to the records. Have not felt that way since.

Not to keep the derailment going, but if the Smashing Pumpkins is being talked about, I gotta join in. Siamese Dream will always rank as my favorite album of all time. Not because I can't find anything to top it, but because it was THE album that got me into music. The first time I heard those guitar tones...I was hooked on music from then on.

For that reason the Smashing Pumpkins will always be pure gold to me...I find it hard to admit when they put out total crap. And I know that they have.

They're not terrible enough to be really dismissive of--they're actually kind of passable--it's just next to things from 1988-1998, they sound so... limp. My thoughts exactly. He has even admitted, though, that what he is putting out now is not going to be up to par with his mid nineties output. He said back then he would push himself to the point of nervous breakdowns until every song was absolute perfection in his eyes, but now he feels too old and content with life to be putting himself through it.

Kind of disappointing knowing all the new music is going to just be "meh...i guess..."

I still have hope that he may, at some point, turn around and put out something really surprising/awesome. The man does have a history of writing really great things that never see the light of day*, so it's always possible...

*Eg: the acoustic set at the Metro in 2004 ("Riverview," "The World's Fair," etc). That would've made a fine solo album practically as it stands, but instead he goes all sub-Depeche Mode on TheFutureEmbrace. *sigh*

Because he is still, however, an egomaniac who is desperate to stay relevant. I was a little relieved to see that Jimmy left the band, he could do better. He has, too...the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex kicks ass. It is a little depressing they aren't getting more attention.
