There is a small number of us on here who regularly trade through PM's because we love the thrill of hearing new music. Sometimes the recommendations don't work but what the hell. Music should be about taking yourself out of your comfort zone and trying to immerse yourself in as many different sounds and genres as possible. I am not asking you to like them. Just try them and maybe you will find a whole unexplored avenue of music that reaffirms that passion for music.

I am not for once suggesting that we all get on our knees and fellate every new thread on here but damn is'nt it about time some of you started chucking some names at the more mature of us who are not in the loop?

Is it a lack of confidence at getting shot down if your recommendation does'nt currie favour with all? Fuck that. Post away.

Never ever be satisfied with what's sitting in your music collection. There is literally millions of albums out there waiting to be discovered. Go find them FFS.
With that I'm off to post a thread about a new band that probably only three people will reply to.

...and yet ironically you'd get more replies posting in this thread.

I seem to be the opposite of a lot of people here because personally I don't think posting threads about new bands to be the be all & end all of everything.

I mean I probably listen to about 5 or 6 new bands a week of all sorts of genres but I don't start threads on them because I need time to work out what I think , and in a lot of cases most of these bands only have a couple of good songs on an album.

I'd much rather wait until something really special comes along and post about that , then start a bunch of threads on loads of bands I just find average or go off after just a few listens.

I agree completley with #4, I love discovering new music, and people like JH, Alfred, and Janszoon are the ones who have helped me with it.

And about the new bands threads well...no ones commented on my Semi-Precious Weapons thread yet

I appreciate those sentiments a lot and understand where you are coming from. However 9 times out of ten I know if a band works for me or not. Herein lies the problem. What works for me is wholly indifferent to the mass public. Forcing my musical ideas is not always the best idea.

Yeah, I'm really bad with this one. As a result, I have a tiny music collection on my PC.

It's not so much that I won't listen to new bands, it's more like I go for them if the description of their music sounds appealing.

I think that's message boards in general, not just this one.
