Default Thriller versus Purple Rain

I beg to differ when people say Prince is not talented. I mean cmon, his Purple Rain album was such a big hit..... and when an artist not only can have a great stage presence but play "many instruments" and write his songs, I think that's phenomenal. And yeah anyone can write some songs but Prince had a lot of them that were smash hits.

Jackson - Does a song with a member of the biggest band of all time and one half of the most famous songwriting duo in history and makes a dogs dinner of a song.

Prince - Takes Sheena fucking Easton and makes her credible for 5 minutes with a great song.

Remind me again , who's the talented one?

It implied a statement which simply isn't true so I felt obliged to correct you...

Urban, your criteria for talent obviously dosen't go anywhere beyond "I enjoy his music, therefore he's talented". I hate it when you try to be objective and naturally fail at it.

I didn't say Prince was talentless, rather, he's not anywhere as talented as people say he is in my opinion.

That's not to say Jackson's talent isn't also overestimated, but at least his music is good to me, thar matters a lot more.

This argument should be about who's music you prefer, I don't know how it became a talent argument, those arguments are always stupid and pointless.

Dream Theater are more talented than The Ramones.

It was a throwaway comment , you reading far too much into it.

Actually it's only the past few years I've got into Prince's music properly. Before that I used to say I could see he had talent but his music wasn't for me which kinda proves your first quote wrong.

Hilarious use of "It's all about personal preference" and then "I can't see how people could disagree with my preference" in the same sentence.

I think Purple Rain is a fabulous album, and I still prefer Thriller. It doesn't take "failing to get" Purple Rain to prefer Thriller.
