That being said the use of pop hooks doesn't exactly quantify "innovation."
Since when?

Since people started using "influence" to describe The Beach Boys.

Of course innovative and influence are subjective terms but there is a strong case that they were both. I am of the opinion that pop hooks are harder to write than is given credit for and The Beach Boys wrote great ones in droves. They also had what at the time was a fairly unique sound. It may not sound like that today but it was at the time fresh and new and they had a massive influence. Bear in mind that in Australia their type of surf pop still gets a thrashing today. I never play them now and am not that fussed if they are included or not but if the Hall Of Fame is only based on personal likes only without any of those other considerations then I am not sure what the point is.

Fair enough. Then I could only vote for the Beach Boys as I have not heard enough music of the other three to form an opinion. I have never knowingly heard a Public Enemy song. My Kinks and Radiohead listening is one album only.

Radiohead - Yes, they have been pumping out great albums at a good rate for a while now.

The Kinks - Yes

The Beach Boys - No, I adore Pet Sounds, but they don't have a great enough body of work to get a yes.

Public Enemy - N/A
