Radiohead - No. I have all the albums on CD (bar Rainbows) and grew up with the Oxford goons, but they'll get in regardless, plus we've been growing apart the last few years. *sniff*

The Kinks - Yes. Forget f*cking Lola; these guys released a concept album about the virtues of a rural pre-war timewarp Britain and the trappings of celebrity and self-indulgence at the height of the 'summer of love', when students were prancing around like idiots on drugs seeing things they would later discover weren't there.

The Beach Boys - Yes. Purely for Pet Sounds. To this day nothing sounds like it in pop and falls well outside the category of 'surf hit'. And if you forget taking the music on it's own merits think of the technological restrictions Wilson was working with at the time and what he accomplished in the studio! Macca has repeatedly asserted that Sgt.Pepper's would not have been the same had Pet Sounds not been made. And like Pepper the Beach Boys' only truly great record is an example of truly contemporary classical music.

Public Enemy - Yes. As Lucifer Sam pointed out there were other great socially conscious groups but PE were first, and nobody had the intensity of The Bomb Squad. The hardest-hitting, most densely-layered sample-mashing production team ever. Also from a lyrical POV their politics were not only more stark and confrontational but more down-to-earth than the pacifistic Nation raps of, well, the rest of rap at the time. If I'd heard their raps in the 80's as a suburban white kid they would've educated more than confused me and that's commendable.

Not sure what other hip-hop nominations there are but if we're not getting the Wu we need somebody like PE in the hall of fame to represent the most enduring African-American musical form since the blues.

Radiohead - No,

Tricky one for me as I'm mildly fond of Radiohead, I'm just not sure if their "classic" 90's work was just good for the time or will age well, too early to say me thinks. Respect to them though for their ability to do what they want when they want in this new century, I quite like that......take that Coldplay and U2 ...... but I'm going to be strict and say no, but time I'm sure will get this band through

The Kinks - Yes, yes, sweet Jesus yes.

Ignoring the early days of The Kinks when Dave Davies was doing some marvellous things with his guitar, from 1965-1971, this band did not make one bad album, infact every album they released in this period was a classic

1965 – The Kink Kontroversy
1966 – Face to Face
1967 – Something Else by The Kinks
1968 – The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society
1969 – Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)
1970 – Lola versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One
1971 – Muswell Hillbillies

For sheer quality, productivity, consistant output and for being bloody brilliant, a big fat yes from me.

The Beach Boys - No,

Sorry folks, dont be angry.

The harmonies are wonderful at times, and Wilson's songwriting is up there with the best of them, but for me their early material was not as strong as some of their contemporaries. And without Wilson, I would not be too sure The Beach Boys would have made any advancement from Surf at all. Pet Sounds rightly gets plaudits, which it deserves, but its one album, when you compare that to The Kinks above that does focus the mind. Mainly because of this and a little bit because of the nomination not being exclusive to Wilson, I'm going to have to say no

NWA or Aesop would both be inducted I assume. Bigger fanbase on the forum.

well i think what's obvious from the posts is that not enough people are familiar enough with PE to give them a well-deserved place in the hall... which is a big shame =/

I don't think so, hell Aesop doesn't even win the 'Best White Rapper' poll. I'm not actually familiar with NWA, but I would be suprised if they are more popular than PE or Wu on the forums.

I think, the only certain way of getting in a hip hop act would be the dubious move of nominating Wu-Tang plus solo albums.
