You said people listen to extreme metal to make their parents mad, which means they're not listening to it on headphones. So why would listening to extreme metal on headphones be a common cause of deafness if people are forgoing headphones to piss off their parents?

I think people who think most kids listen to metal or punk to piss off their parents only know about teen culture through badly written films/tv/books. That's just severely out of touch

The greatest metal song ever recorded is Metallica's version of Diamond Head's song "Am I Evil?". They play the song just like Diamond Head do but the production is heavier and crunchier so the only thing Metallica actually add is a more aggressive singer so all credit for the song goes to Diamond Head but damn they are still outperformed on their own song.
