This is the first time I've really listened to Pere Ubu, and they're ****ing amazing. They're almost the perfect band.

I normally don't post in this thread because it can be rather... boring (and self-indulgent), but I was recently confronted with the strong urge to share this song. It's by one of the more underrated bands of the UK post-punk scene, This Heat, who were making music that sounded decades ahead of its time. This song in particular is from their 1980 EP... and it sounds like it could have been released yesterday. It's beginning can be compared to that of Sonic Youth and The Flaming Lips (combined). It has a very jubilant and almost ethereal aesthetic... but then it goes into this improvisational/minimalist/tribal groove for the remainder of song, which is completely unexpected... Of course, it is This Heat... whose music was known for having strange song progressions and changes. So maybe it's not all that unexpected.

Anyways... if you have not listened to this band, then I strongly suggest you do. Their debut/self-titled, Deceit (especially Deceit), and their EP are all brilliant and timeless...

Good to hear! I'm quite a fan of them myself... If you're interested, here are some other experimental post-punk bands: Swell Maps, Pop Group, Public Image Limited, Chrome, Five or Six, The Raincoats, Dome, and (as I mentioned above) This Heat. Of course, all of them aren't really similar to Pere Ubu, but they're in the same vein (kind of).

Also: Captain Beefheart and The Red Krayola (two major influences on Pere Ubu)

This song has been stuck in my head for the last couple of days. One of the best songs to drive to.

Currently listening to maudlin of the Well - Bath. This is definitely one of my favorite albums ever. I urge everyone to check it out; it's a truly unique album.
