One of the best opening songs of all time.

More Yes for my money. Definitely. I'm assuming that's an eighties album (not only from the music but the hair and clothes?) --- or one seeking to emulate/lampoon that era?

That's Airplay, which is super-producer David Foster and guitar god Jay Graydon working together. The former had just gotten done with Hall & Oates / Earth Wind & Fire and the latter with Steely Dan. Great yacht-rock album.

David Foster. I should have known. The lack of ear-grating digital piano put me off the scent. Man, if that's a prime example of Yacht Rock, I don't need to hear any more.

It's not a yacht rock song....its a pomp rock song. Not all that different from what bands like City Boy, Triumph and their peers were getting into around that period. The rest of the album falls more into the yacht rock template.

Foster's a brilliant producer in any case (pre-90's anyway). Great resume.

Tonight I've started exploring choral music, and was particularly intrigued by Russian Orthodox basso profundo - specifically works by The Orthodox Singers and The Tallis Scholars.

I compiled a 16-disc catalog including Peter Phillips' sacred choral works, the indispensable Orthodox Singers album, Moscow Choral's compilation, the English Baroque Soloists' recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor, and the Moscow Chamber Choir's Liturgy of St John Chrysostom, as well as the BBC Symphony and the Vienna Philharmonic's performances of Mozart's Requiem.

If you can suggest any other choral essentials, I'm all ears!
