Yes are brilliant but you have to accept their distinctive approach to melody first. Close To The Edge (the album) is so highly regarded even outside of prog circles that Pitchfork gives it a perfect score. And those guys despise most prog with a passion.

That being said, maybe you'd appreciate their stuff more being covered with some attractive female vocalists.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Yes. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the lyrics will go over a typical listener's head. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Chris Squire's genius wit unfolds itself on their speakers. What fools.. how I pity them.

I tried to go back to "classic" Smashing Pumpkins a year or so ago and I couldn't stomach it. I don't suppose their new material will do it for me.
