True to its name I can definitely imagine hearing this album play in a hunted house, but with that being said I really enjoyed it. I only gave the album one listen so far but it seems to be telling Mr. Spookhouse's story, who I just realized is a vampire.

The music mixes quite a few genres from electronic, to indie, even to classical but it all melds together perfectly and really pulls you in. Even though the tags on the song say indie i don't think you can classify it that easily.

Overall, I loved the album and highly recommend it to any interested parties. And as soon as I'm done typing this I'm going to find some other music by The Dead Bodies.

Glad you liked this. I saw what you sent me, and that it was gonna be weird, so I figured I might try to out-weird you... This is about as weird as I have though. It's not bad, but I think you won anyway.

Yeah, Indie is a pretty terrible and lazy tag label to put on it, agreed. Guess I gotta take the blame for that though.

As far as finding more from them, I'm almost positive this is all they have released atm. If you do find something else out there though, then hook it up.

A great album and a great band, loved it from my first listen, from the first song even. It was kind of a mix between Django Reinhardt and Goran Bregovic, no matter how strange this sounds, it really worked. I don't think I have a "favourite" track, as I feel it's one of those albums you just hear from the beginning to the end. Some of them did stand out, maybe The Butcher's wife, Bouquet or Burial at sea. What was even more interesting though, were these few instrumental parts inserted in the songs, that seemed like improvised pieces on stage.
I didn't talk much about the vocals in the album, maybe because they weren't that special, though they were pretty smooth and worked very well with the great arrangements. I think I would've got annoyed by them if they were a bit more noticeable, cause they would have seemed a bit over done. So I think they were perfect for the music.

All in all, it was a great album, that might be my second favourite of 2009. Thank you Rickenbacker.

Contemporary Noise Quintet - Pig Inside the Gentleman

I just completed my second listen to this album, the first being approximately a week ago around the same time of day. When I first put it on last week, it seemed like my enjoyment of it would be limited. Very jazzy/loungy, and I don't listen to much of this type of music. Jazz-influenced, sure, plenty of that. Lots of downtempo and chill-out music too. But this is more straight-up jazz than I'm used to. Anyway as it went on there were definitely parts I enjoyed. I was reminded of The Budos Band at times, a band I enjoy quite a bit, most likely due to the horns. They are more jazz-funk though. There were parts of this album that also reminded me of some jazz-influenced electronic acts that I enjoy, such as Amon Tobin, The Landau Orchestra (an orchestra-based project from the guys in Landau, the artist I happened to trade to Zarko), Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (not that electronic actually), and maybe Bersarin Quartett. Anyway...on to my second listen. I like this, it's very chill despite not being downtempo. Lounge-y definitely. I like the piano, horns, chello, and whatever else...the only parts I found my self not liking were when the sax was present. I don't know what it is...but it's a bit irritating to me. A bit cheesy also. Sometimes I could deal with it, but most of the time not. Overall I'll definitely play this again at some point, as it's pretty good, but I didn't enjoy it to the point of keeping it in heavy rotation. Definitely worth a listen if you like jazz though.

I've got one of the two albums I'm in for, so I'll be getting my review typed up here fairly soon.

Don't forget that the next trade begins on Monday at the earliest, so best to start thinking about whether or not you want in nowish. 50/50 as to whether or not it's gonna be themed - depends if I can think of a good one or not (unless anyone else has any ideas).

I'm thinking about maybe giving the next one an upbeat theme - stuff that's light-hearted, has a sense of humour about it or whatever that, it goes without saying, doesn't necessarily have to be pop. In other words, no, I'm not sure! Plenty of time to think it through though.
