Sure this is a different style but not a single tune I ever heard come from the STP camp or any of its offshoots even comes close to capturing the raw emotion and energy as this simple straight ahead rocker.

Ultimately I think it comes down to personal preference, I like listening to rock music to get hyped up, I like feeling the rush of blood through my body as a result of the rawness and passion within the recorded performance, the sensation of all the hairs on my arms standing on edge, the entirety of my being lighting up and paying attention. That's just not something I get from a group like STP. But holy crap is it ever hard for me to not bounce off the walls when I hear something like State of Love and Trust.
it's actually a jazz song by stp but the song you showed is decent at best. i heard pearl jam songs that were better then the one you just showcased.

I'm very surprised people here like STP. They were the least original, most fake band of that early 90s grunge/alternative scene. Their sound was derived from bands like pearl jam and AIC. I can even think of one of their more recent songs that sound exactly like this nirvana song, I believe it's "stay away" that I'm thinking of. I'll have to figure it out and post it.

Candlebox and Bush were far more fake than STP ever were.

Eh. I don't think either of the three are very. When I was a kid I used to like stp and bush quite a bit. Now neither really appeal to me. I haven't heard much from candlebox. I know bush's newer stuff Is god awful. I've never heard a bush song that instantly made me think "they got that from AIC" or "that's a nirvana rip off". I have thought those things while listening to stp.

They talk to me in a way that STP could never do.
Nice, for whatever reasons I kind of moved away from PJ after their Live on Two Legs album. It still strikes me as weird to see Matt Cameron drumming for them. From the last 4 albums which would you say rocks hardest and balladeers the least?

Yeah I remember buying Tiny Music back in the day, still have it. I thought that song was shmaltzy as hell back then too.

Really though, how do you define 'better'? A greater technical requirement? Atypical arrangements that eschew pop chart conventions but are safely within the lines of the genre it mimics? I like to think I was clear in saying that I prefer more visceral music, seems to me State of Love and Trust pretty well nails it.

Then you offer Faithful, but when it comes to the Yield album it's ALL about Do The Evolution for me - again I prefer visceral energy. Hell, they almost breakdown into the climax of Jeremy 2 minutes into Faithful, listen to Vedder's vocalizations, they're not quite as loud but it's the same sounds. While you might prefer it, I still think it sounds kind of cheesy.

Here's the ultimate thing though, when STP try to do other styles it sounds like they're trying as opposed to doing. It comes across as insincere and hollow. One of my personal favourite albums is Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfa - The Jazz Samba Encore! - that Samba Nova song doesn't live up, it sounds like a rock band trying to do a samba and, to me, it's cheesy - as hell.

That's not meant to diminish your enjoyment or preference of their music. But if you're going to keep posting about how much 'better' they are and how your choices for either group are 'better' examples of their music than mine or other individuals... then please learn to quantify your opinion with something more than just, 'I like it better' or 'here's a better example'.

Glycerine doesn't really remind me of Nirvana or AIC.

i picked those two songs because they are very smooth, harmonic and relaxing i guess i prefer smooth songs over the hard ones..
i think my biggest problem with pearl jam is eddie's voice it's so growl like and harsh ..unlike scott's beautiful voice so that can adapt to a hardstyle and a soft-style..
