Mirrorball, The Church just made a new album and released a month or so ago and its absolutely freaking awesome! Much slower, spacier than the earlier stuff, but man its such a great dreamy trip of an album, lyrically and musically... well worth a purchase!

It's called Untitled # 23.... and if you should come across After Everything... get it. Damn amazing stuff.

Nightswimming - R.E.M.

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
The photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
Turned around backwards so the windshield shows
Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse
Still, it's so much clearer
I forgot my shirt at the water's edge
The moon is low tonight

Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
I'm not sure all these people understand
It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water
They cannot see me naked
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday

Nightswimming, remembering that night
September's coming soon
I'm pining for the moon
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?
That bright, tight forever drum
Could not describe nightswimming

You, I thought I knew you
You, I cannot judge
You, I thought you knew me,
This one laughing quietly underneath my breath
Nightswimming

The photograph reflects,
Every streetlight a reminder
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night, deserves a quiet night

(here's one for Memorial Day)

Fighter Pilot....Korean War
The Church debut album of Skins and Hearts

At home they think we must be fools
The sky or street, they're both as cruel
When you're running low on fuel
And I ran out books ago
Last night I overheard your prayers
It's emptiness that scares
Or disappearing in thin air
To a lost place down below

I cant think of anything else right now but that pixies record come on piligrim has some of the most hillarious lyrics.
I agree that the Pixies have some really great, surreal, violent and funny lyrics all wrapped up into one package. I much perfer the lyrics on Doolittle and Surfer Rosa, however.

Gun - Lou Reed
The man has a gun
He knows how to use it
Nine millimeter browning
Let's see what he can do
He'll point at your mouth
Says that he'll blow your brains out
Don't you mess with me
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
Don't you mess with me
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
Don't mess with me
Ooohhh, carrying a gun
Get over there
Move slowly
I'll put a hole in your face
If you even breathe a word
Tell the lady to lie down
I want, ah, you to be sure to see this
I wouldn't want you to miss a second
Watch your wife
Carrying a gun
Shooting with a gun
Dirty animal

Carrying a gun
Carrying a gun
Watch you face
Carrying a gun
Carrying a gun
Carrying a gun
The animal dies with fear in his eyes
With a gun
Don't touch him, don't touch him
Stay away from him, he's got a gun

Man-Size Sextet - PJ Harvey
I'm coming up man-sized
Skinned alive
I want to fit
Mmm, I've got to get
Man-sized
I'm heading on
Handsome
Got my leather boots on

Got my girl and she's a wow
I cast my iron knickers down
Man-size no need to shout
Can you hear, can you hear me now?

I'm man-sized
Man-sized

I'll measure time
I'll measure height
I'll calculate
My birthrite
Good lord, I'm big
I'm heading on
Man-sized
Got my leather boots on

Got my girl and she's a wow
I cast my iron knickers down
Man-sized no need to shout
Can you hear, can you hear me now?

My babe looking cool and neat
I'm pretty sure good enough to eat
Man-sized no need to shout
Let it all, let it all hang out

I'm man-size
Man-size x7

Silence my lady head
Get girl out of my head
Douse hair with gasoline
Set it light and set it free

Knockin' On Joe - Nick Cave
These chains of sorrow, they are heavy, it is true
And these locks cannot be broken,
no, not with one thousand keys
O Jailer, you drag a ball-n-chain you cannot see
You can lay your burden on me
You can lay your burden down on me
You can lay your burden down upon me
But you cannot lay down your memory

Woooo wooo wooo
Woooo wooo wooo
Here I go!
Knockin on Joe!
This square foot of sky will be mine til I die
Knocking on Joe
Woooo wooo wooo
All down the row
Knockin on Joe

O Warden I surrender to you
Your fists can't hurt me anymore
You know, these hands will never mop
your dirty Death Row floors
O Preacher, come closer, you don't scare me anymore
Just tell Nancy not to come here
Just tell her not to come here anymore
Tell Nancy not to come
And let me die in the memory of those arms

O woo woo woo
Woo woo woo
All down the row
Knockin on Joe
O you kings of halls and ends of halls
You will die within these walls
And I'll go, down the row
Knockin on Joe

O Nancy's body is a coffin,
she wears my tombstone at her head
O Nancy's body is a coffin,
she wears my tombstone at her head
She wears her body like a coffin
She wears a dress of gold and red
She wears a dress of gold and red
She wears a dress of red and gold
Grave-looters at my coffin
before my body's even cold

It's a door for when I go
Knockin on Joe
These hands will never mop
your dirty Death Row floors
No! You can hide! You can run!
O but your trial is yet to come
O you can run! You can hide!
But you have yet to be tried!
You can lay your burdens down here
You can lay your burden down
Knockin on Joe
You can lay your burden upon me
You can lay your burden upon me
Knockin on Joe
You can lay it down here
You can bring your burden down
Knockin on Joe
You can't hurt me anymore
You can't hurt me anymore
Knockin on Joe

View From The Watertower - Book Of Knots (good luck finding these lyrics)

Ides Of Swing - Andrew Bird (I think this is a cover)
Some say April is the cruelest, and though I can be quite morose.
The stiff who penned it on a fool's list of those who are chronically verbose
When your head starts craning back
And your breath comes short and fast
The music of the spheres start to bounce and sing
That's when you know you're swinging
When your eyes roll back into your head
And the sap of the trees on your fingers have bled
Swooning to the charms of Mephisto's waltz
That's when you know you've got some schmaltz
When you've got the evil eye and unconsciously growl
Your hands start shaking and you crouch and prowl
These terryifing symptoms are a sure-fire sign
That you're pimpin baby and your feeling fine
When you make love to whomever you please
And a bullet to the head feels like a soft warm breeze
Red suit green suit they're all there scheming
That's when you know you're dreaming
Yes you're dreaming , you are dreaming
I hope you are dreaming

"Mermaids Are Sea Sluts" Sage Francis
I am nothing but a shell of the man i once was
so you could put me to your ear
and actually hear yester-year's ocean

I was in shape then
A much better built body
Of water with infinite waves
and fathomless depths
where you could have gone deep-sea fishing for compliments
and caught plentiful schools of reassuring comments

Now all you get is the boot

You fell for the bait and got hooked on what you thought i was
Now we're both struggling to win this tug of war of the worlds
Where we breath the same air it's just done differently.
And I'm trying to figure out ways to have comfortably survive outside your element
Compromising intelligence
I dabbled in watered-down thoughts that
Filtered in from main-stream.

I'm offering mind-altering ideas that make the most quiet nature brain
Scream from exposure to the types of things that won't
Necessarily make you happier

They'll just give you a greater range of emotions

And I can feel myself getting lured into deeper oceans of
Fantasy lands
Where people think they're as safe as cartoons
Simply because they speak in bubbles.

A sanitized safe-haven
Where you could face Satan and
Have his faith straightened.
His new goal would be to dethrone Poseidon and
Have Neptunes place taken.
They'd swash-buckled with their pitchforks
While Lucifer **** talks and rips
Thoughts of coral reefs
For relief he'd be like "b****, walk"
From this oversize aquarium that daddy kept cleanly
To unhealthy degrees
Writing suicide notes with invisible ink
On transparencies
And posting them to the glass boundaries that
Surround the seas of change.

Strangely enough, while bringing back the reel (!!!!!!!!)
I could sense intense resistance
So I had no other choice
but to cut the line. I'm not
saying you're overly naive
I just think you should get into the habit of checking to see when strings are attached.

Fortunate for you I'm compassionate enough
To throw back what I catch
If its underdeveloped
And needs time to grow; though
I'm remorseful of the pain I've caused you.

And I want to kiss your lips better.

I sympathise with the sorrow by
Stroking the scar of my own traumatic experience with
My excommunicated tongue.

See I know exactly what you mean when you say
It hurts to much to talk.
I've been there.
I don't plan on returning 'cause
No matter how much of a distance I kept
Or how long I waited for my wounds to heal
They'd re-open with the slightest flash-back

So I sued time for mal-practice
That bastard's a hack with a
Rusty scalpel and
Barbed-wire stitched thread.
Instead of seeing things clearly
They're pitch red and there's this glitch in my head
That's got me thinking contradictions
It said:

"There are more fish in the sea!
Whether you hear me not,
Or you listen to me.
Whether you listen to me or
Hear me not!"

There are more micro-organisms in my teardrop.
But fear not
I'd never sink as low as to
Make my ears pop.

And I imagine now you only want to swim with members of your own league
And don't need me
Meddling
Sending sonar signals
High-pitched notes or symbols.
My voice is thrown far but ripples are only caused when you cast stones

But you shouldn't throw rocks
If you live in fragile fairytales.

This really means alot to me...
Ill always treasure it..as a token.

No you won't...
This is for the girl who loves me, the girl who cares about me for who i am, not what I look like!
I just wanted you to know what you'd be missing.
You think I don't appreciate art, you think I don't understand fashion, you think I'm not hip, you think im pathetic, a nerd... a lard ass, a fatso.
You think I'm s***, but you're wrong, 'cuz im champagne, and your s***!
Until the day you die, you, not me, will always be s***!

See when you put a shell to your ear
It is not the sound of crashing waves you're hearing
It's the amplified current of your bloodstream

It was your self pulse that created that
False human illusion of me.
Your tireless heart pumping
Out
An ocean of lies
And I foolishly tried
Filling impossible shoes
Resulting in my stumbleing
As I fell into the trap of making a women my element

Now I just can't get comfortable being out of you.

Cool man! Ill check it out & might even buy it as Ive got some spare beans. The Church are a really good band. I liked how the two albums I have 'The Blurred Crusade' (1982) & 'Starfish' (1988) are two totally different albums. I prefer the last one as it is a lot darker compared to the earlier one.

Oh if you like the darker side of the Church, you'll love the new one... its serene, eloquent, beuatifully crafted..... but man is there a dark undercurrent to it all.... its honestly the best thing Ive heard in years, period. Thats not just speaking as a fan... I sincerely haven`t had something this engaging in years.

Kamelot- The Fourth Legacy

settle for the journey
sail across the seven seas
carried by the spirit of the brave
join the New Allegiance now
and pledge your sacred heart
a history that no one can forsake
flying like an eagle from oblivion
rising in the mirror of the sky
you will find the New Allegiance
like a beacon in the night
if you're searching for salvation
reach inside
there's a new world approaching
a fire to be seen
in following The Fourth Legacy
once you find the passage
to another promised land
don't forget the ones you left behind
flying like an eagle from oblivion
guided by the rising morning star
you will find the New Allegiance
like a beacon in the night
if you're searching for salvation
reach inside
there's a new world approaching
a fire to be seen
in following The Fourth Legacy
there's glory in the distance
for the one's that pay the price
ignorance creates a subtle mind
keep the fighting spirit
never close your eyes
don't forget the ones you left behind
flying like an eagle from oblivion
rising in the mirror of the sky
you will find the New Allegiance
like a beacon in the night
if you're searching for salvation
reach inside
there's a new world approaching
a fire to be seen
in following The Fourth Legacy
